That line about doing pilates with the hotties? Far more brilliant than ANYTHING you can find on that boring-ass "White Album" The Beatles tried to pawn off on us.

At least we can all agree that "American Life" is a far better album than "Purple Rain" ever was.

Amen! lol

Christina probably is quite disgusting, and will get more disgusting, but she'll do it better then Madonna ever did
her "SKANK" is far more popular then madonna's was (erotica, sex book)

Madonna since 97 has just been bad b-grade BJORK drag show
before that it was Deborah Harry

It's like she's always looking every 10 years to see who is the most relevant important female artist around, and jsut take it and commercialise it, she aint original

You should get Homogenic and Vespertine by Bjork
because ray of light and American Life are like thier sister albums ( just minus a few chromosones)

SHUT UP!!!

Just because Bjork is classically trained and her movie went all nutso at Cannes (which is run by EVIL FRENCH PEOPLE, GO USA!!! - wait, are we still against the French, I forgot), and just because she can write music for strings and woodwinds and produce her own music, DOESN'T MEAN SQUAT!!!

I haven't seen any photo pictorials in W magazine of Bjork with her head tucked between her ass cheeks lately.

I haven't seen Bjork recording any techno cover versions of "American Pie" lately.

I haven't read any Bjork lyrics like Madonna rhyming "pilates" with "hotties" lately.

Face it - Madonna is the greatest living creative force of the 20th and 21st centuries. Anyone can see that. Even the Amish know this, and they don't even listen to albums!!!

Mirawais is no where as good as Lennon and Mccartney
heck even Yoko has produced better music then this

Clearly, Madonna's albums are far better than The Beatles. Just listen to them. It really doesn't take much explanation. George Martin was a talentless hack, whereas Mirwais has a perfect ear for Madonna's unique style of musicianship. As for the fab four, well - they were just lucky. Paul knew how to rhyme words and John could draw funny pictures. Big whoop. Madonna can do those things, PLUS she can dance, PLUS she's a highly experienced actress, PLUS "American Life" has more lyrical punch than "Let It Be" and "Abbey Road" combined.

I mean, DUH.

I agree- the Beatles suck major ass! "I'm Breathless" is better than anything I've heard by them. lol

I think people are underrating Madonna's debut album very much. It is a perfect album- no questions about it. To rate it in the same category as "Like a Virgin" is sacrelige! Her first album was fresh and pretty influential. It contains bonafide classics. It does not have crap like "Shoo Bee Doo," "Stay" or "Pretender."

Actually, I would rate Madonna's first album a few notches higher than the Dead Sea Scrolls in terms of cultural significance.

A little more trivia and info about the 'American Life' CD...

***The song "Intervention" was actually recorded in 2000 for the 'Music' album. The original version was more of an uptempo techno dance track, much different from the more subdued version that appears on 'Amercan Life'.

***Remember before the CD came out,we were hearing rumors that one track was originally twelve minutes long? Well,it turns out that "Nobody Knows Me" is that song.

***Speaking of "Nobody Knows Me"...there is an official remix of this song by Peter Rauhofer. But,so far, there is no word on what Warner plans to do with this song and it's remix.Could it become a future single?

***"Hollywood" was written a few years ago,and the original version is much different from the released track.According to Mirwais, the song went through many different changes before Maddy found a melody and sound that she liked.

***After all this time, there is still alot of confusion about a song called "Can't You See My Mind?".Some people insist that this song title is just a working title for what later became "Die Another Day".Others are convinced that it's an entirely different song,a lush ballad.

Because I didn't grow up with her been shoved down my throat (no pun intented) and I see no attraction to what she does (or lack of)
anyway Christina Aguliera is picking up where she left off
and the difference is Christina can SING and DANCE better then Madonna and is just a more improved version of Madonna's B - GRADE Deborah Harry & Bjork impersonations

Christina has picked up where Madonna left off?

shit, Christina doesn't even know what color her hair should be until Madonna does it first. see the video for "Fighter"? it's a pastiche of Madonna videos.

as for the sexuality thing... yes, the Britneys and Christinas and Kylies have picked up on that. where it fails, however, is that they completely miss the point of it. there is no irony to what they're doing. there is no culture-shock. there is no reason behind what they do. no button-pushing, no intelligence, no statement, no relevance, no social or political commentary.

they did get that from her, and have taken it farther than she did. but the reasons they're doing it is just because it sells and they want to be sexy.

i'm not so naive and goo-goo-eyed over Madonna that i don't realize that SHE was also doing it to sell herself. but when she was doing it, there was at least some undercurrent that got people talking about the issues or images she was representing, rather than "look at that fucking slut" which is what you get with the Britneys and Christinas... and "look at that fucking slut" seems to be the reaction they're striving for, and content with. and nothing more...

here's a little bit of a parallel:

there are several people on this thread who are Madonna fans agreeing with the things Anxiety is saying, when his statements are meant to be ironic and sarcastic.

it's the same thing with "Xtina"... she's all "i grew up on madonna, and now i'm going to take her place as a big ol' skank" completely missing the irony of what Madonna did, and what she was actually saying with her sexuality, and basically the whole point.

Exactly! I pointed this out on a Lil Kim thread. Many of today's artists are just being sleazy for the purpose of being sleazy. They're not even trying to make any kind of statement, their actions don't have a real purpose, and there's no sense of irony in what they do.Madonna,on the other hand, always has a reason for what she does. She had an agenda. She was breaking down barriers and taboos, she was making a point and she was making people analyze themselves and their own thoughts. The same cannot be said for the Christinas and Britneys.
