It's a pity that one of her best albums is being received so poorly.

So she's had like, what, 16 albums? And this is supposed to be one of her best, lets say in the best 25%, so there r 12 Madonna albums out there that are worse than this one. Can u give me a list of those twelve? (this question is not only directed to you, but to everybody who thinks this album is Madonna-at-her-best).

This is how I view Madonna's catalogue:

1. Like a Prayer
2. Ray of Light
3. Madonna
4. American Life
5. Erotica
6. True Blue
7. Bedtime Stories
8. Music
9. Like a Virgin
10. I'm Breathless
11. Evita
12. You Can Dance

Her greatest hits albums shouldn't count, but even if I included them, they would be below "American Life."

I honestly think this album is better than anything The Beatles ever recorded.

I've been able to gather up some information on the making of the 'American Life' album.Apparently, there were about seven songs that didn't make the final tracklist. Here's info on five of those rejected songs...

***"My Ejector"---those who have heard it say that it sounds alot like the title track

***"Adverse Youth"---a ballad

***"Mind Trapper"---no info about this song

***"Bad Nature"---no info about this song

***"Forbidden Fruit"---Supposedly,this song was given to Jessica Simpson for her upcoming album.Written by Madonna and Mirwais.

Clearly, Madonna's albums are far better than The Beatles. Just listen to them. It really doesn't take much explanation. George Martin was a talentless hack, whereas Mirwais has a perfect ear for Madonna's unique style of musicianship. As for the fab four, well - they were just lucky. Paul knew how to rhyme words and John could draw funny pictures. Big whoop. Madonna can do those things, PLUS she can dance, PLUS she's a highly experienced actress, PLUS "American Life" has more lyrical punch than "Let It Be" and "Abbey Road" combined.

I mean, DUH.

Okay, here goes nothing:

They kind of go in tiers or groupings. I'll divide them in terms of quality.

starstarstarstarstar
1. American Life - her most honest and revealing yet. in love with the sound of it.
2. Ray Of Light - my mantra for like a year.
3. Erotica - so cool. used to be my favorite. may end up again someday.

starstarstarstar1/2
4. Music - fresh and colorful. great to play along to.
5. Bedtime Stories - also fresh and colorful. a bit scatterbrained, but that's part of the appeal.
6. Like A Prayer - brilliant but I'm mostly over it. seems like reading an old diary that doesn't apply anymore.
-I'd also include Immaculate Collection and Something To Remember in this group.

starstarstarstar
7. Madonna - every song is wonderful. one of the best debuts, imo.
8. True Blue - solid and her voice grew a lot.
9. Like A Virgin - some total crap, but it's her bread and butter. Can't deny it.
-If you take only Madonna's songs, Who's That Girl would fit in here.

starstarstar
10. I'm Breathless - loved it when it came out. now it seems kinda silly. only a few true keepers.
11. Evita - only ever listened to it once. great movie. boring soundtrack overall.
-You Can Dance isn't a real album and GHV2 was shittily put together. Is that a word?

Looking over this list, I think overall she's just gotten better. I love her classic stuff cuz I grew up on it and they're perfect pop songs, but I've grown with her and she means even more now than she did then to me.

Agreed. Her new music is so much better than the early stuff. Her last three albums mean so much more to me than the 80s stuff.

I'm sure those outtakes will leak, eventually. There are rumors that some of those songs may appear on the box set due later this year.

I love 'Music'! I admit,it's an album that I keep changing my mind about...lol...sometimes,I love it to death, other times I think it's just okay.Currently,I think it's excellent.

Yay! Me too. At first, I thought it was going to be a cheap knockoff of Ray Of Light. That album was so new for her, that she could only sonically shock so much after that. But with time, I see more of the differences between the 2 albums than the similarities. I could write an essay about it actually.

Madonna is so weak, how can you guys really think she is talented? is it just a sentimental 80's thing?
Because I didn't grow up with her been shoved down my throat (no pun intented) and I see no attraction to what she does (or lack of)
anyway Christina Aguliera is picking up where she left off
and the difference is Christina can SING and DANCE better then Madonna and is just a more improved version of Madonna's B - GRADE Deborah Harry & Bjork impersonations

wow, you are bitter smile

With me, the madonna-love is not sentimental at all. I rarely listen to her early stuff any more. I like it, but I just think she made vast improvements in Ray Of Light and again now on American Life. Madonna's long stayed true to her vision (however trend-savvy it may be) and she's charted a course that's kept her high in the public eye and relevant longer than just about any other 80s icon.

As for Christina, she's dancing down the road that Madonna helped pave. If she's still around in 10, no FIVE years, you can maybe make your argument.

SHUT UP!!!

MADONNA IS BETTER THAN EDITH PIAF AND MATCHBOX TWENTY COMBINED!!!

That line about doing pilates with the hotties? Far more brilliant than ANYTHING you can find on that boring-ass "White Album" The Beatles tried to pawn off on us.

At least we can all agree that "American Life" is a far better album than "Purple Rain" ever was.
