i think its funny how people like prince(who by the way merges sex and god, and has shown almost all his skin over the years, and in some of those pants well, we know his religion) and madonna just get peeps by showing what everyBODY else has. people feel SHAME by what is just nature. god does promote sex ya know and just because someone is showing the skin while still talking up god does not mean they is some skank hoochie. if anything they should be praised for there comfort in themselves and their faith. fewer clothes do not mean a diminished love for god. and by the way, imnotjustsayingthistobenasty, what do you wear to the beach? black and white puritan robes.
Have you even seen Beyonce's new video? The way she is shakin' her ass in that video has nothing to do with her being comfortable in her faith. God promotes sex? Really? What passage is that in? By the way, Prince is not showing skin anymore because of his faith. Dude barely even dances anymore. Oh yeah, Beyonce is a skank hoochie.

is beyonce at the beach in her video? uh, that answer would be no! have you heard me praising madonna and prince for their christianity? uh, another no. i wouldn't even care what beyonce wore if she wasn't shouting out about her faith. and yes, while the song of solomon does talk of love and sex, it is between two people who are faithful under God...not some young 21 year old single woman who claims to be a christian.

ok, well just because both women are black does not mean they can be compared. janet can sing. beyonce can sing. both need to put more clothes on but at least janet is not collaborating on contemporary gospel albums and then taking her clothes off.

Beyonce wearing more clothes would be nice. i think that she's playing herself by dressing so, well, skanky. She's a beautiful girl and many times she is dressed in ways that compliment her beauty and then there are those other times when she's not dressed so classy, like parts of her crazy in love video. She also isn't the dancing the best in that viseo. Perhaps her coochie cutters are too tight? My father would definitely have a heart attack if I wore anything like that in public.

Agreed on your frist statment.
Beyonce has worn dresses that make her sooo beautiful and classy and successful looking( a la red dress she wore to MtV Movie awards...stunning!)
It's crazy to suggest that by her dressing like a skank shows she's grown up. ( Why do many daughters of famous people do that...it's not like they worked to get their breasts or something!)

For those who find wearing clothes like this acceptable just to sell records...Shame on you. It is the same thing which made someone like Britney sell music( which you find purposeful and need)and thus help to destroy the industry you love.

In addition, I would like to agree with Stymie and some of ther other orgers here who also dislike her method of trying to preach+ dress like a skank.

When you look at her...the words...she's all grown up and is her own woman doesn't pop do they?!More it's like...why is she showing off her assests when she has a good enough ability to sing or...ewww...or Dayum...I like what I see...

I was flipping through the channels when her video came on. Unfortunetly, I watched the video... After seeing her and the other girls shake her ass, my eyes immediately feel to the floor. I felt disgusted and ashamed for her. Perhpas it the teachings of my religion, nevertheless...Beyonce lacks modesty and shyness. By dressing like this and moving her body in such a manner isn't she preventing men from protecting women from harm? I'm sure now they would rather be seduced by her and other women like that than cover them so people will not think her skanky. If my Muslim Brothers just saw her like that...their eyes would bug out and they too would look away from her( I bet some of them would turn around and look to the floor or something...)I want to throw a blanket on her...

I am not so famililar with Christianity but I am sure fornication, adultery and sodomy(sp?) is prohibited.
By her dressing in skanky and moving about skanky, isn't she LEADING both men and women to commit sins like those?!
Where is her haya( modesty and shyness?)How shameful of her to make both men and women look at her and be decieved by her beauty.

If Beyonce wants to preach to me religion, than I suggest she should wear clothes that cover her beauty and stop dancing which is purposeless and disgusting looking...
Some days ago and also today...I saw this Muslim and Jewish Orthodox couples. Both the men had beards, and the women of both religions were covered from head to toe( meaning their hair were covered, and so were their bodies( the jews wore full-sleeved sweaters and long skirts and the muslims a jelbab which is like a coat which even the non-muslims find good becuase it is more cool.)) This made me smile...it looked so beautiful, natural, purposeful.I rather her dress like this if she wants to preach rather than be half-naked.

Btw...don't Christains have something like this too?!...???Shouldn't a "believing" woman and men cover like that?!

What I don't like about this post is the insinuation that a woman cannot be sexual. That she cannot show her body because it's bad. Women are just as sexual as men, but are taught they are to be different. It's bullshit. Women are not to be modest and shy and sweet nurturers. Fuck that. So what if she's a Christian. How many Christians do you know follow all ten comandments faithfully? We are all sinners, even the church mother sitting in the front pew. Women don't have to be covered up to be protected from men. Men need to take responsibility for their actions and keep their hands and dicks to themselves regardless of how a woman is "perceived"

Here's my thing: if a woman shows everything all of the time, people are gonna get bored with it eventually cause there's no mystery. If you give suggestive glimpses, but rely primarily upon your talent and persona for attention, then people will stay tuned for more and will not be bored. You'll also radiate self-confidence and self-respect, rather than radiating light from that moon of an ass you're showing! wink

Women can be sexy in more ways than being naked. As many men say, it's the suggestion of being able to see what's underneath that's truly exciting. nod

Hmmm...
Women have the right to be sexual and so do men... and my post was not directed to the feelings she will create in men but in the lack of her modesty leading BOTH MEN AND WOMEN to commit sins such as fornication, etc.
From what I've just read, you brought up the man vs. woman topic I see a lot when it comes to revealing clothes, sex, etc.( I remember once I checked out this black magazine out of my curisoity and it had a decent article on how men are allowed to have sex frequently and women not...
and I guess for you the same scenario applies here as well...)

As far as her sexuality goes...Why does she have to display it to those who are not related to her and are not her husband, child, etc? What do I get out of it by looking at that? It is of no use to me...and can lead me to do the same. If I wanted Beyonce or any woman to display anything to me...it's be their personality/intelligence and not how they just look/move. Modesty and being not soo lavish in our affairs are important and it does not curropt society and makes people not jealous of what they can not ever obtain naturally or legally.

Let's do a word association kinda game here. If someone cried out cloud, you might say rain. and if someone shows a clip of Beyonce dancing like that, you won't cry out respect by any chance. Slut,Bitc*,Whore,Skank,etc,etc... are the words I think will come up w/o a doubt. By her displaying herself like this...will it not curropt(sp?) society?

You are right when you said:"We are all sinners, even the church mother sitting in the front pew.". Indeed my brother was right when he said:" Innocence does not lie in the hijab of a sister nor the beard of a brother but only in a child." BOTH MEN AND WOMEN ( in my little ole'religion:Islam) are TO cover themseleves, lower their gazes, protect the area which is below the waist, marry to protect themselves from such filth or fast. The rules applies to both. if a glance is made once by accident, it is not to be made again...

And as far as" So what if she is Christain?"...

She is supposedly a "believing" woman...
She is not perfect and nor am I, so she must work on it?! she is also preaching!
If she is saying one thing and displaying to me and others something else which goes agasint her teachings...I have a right to critisize!
If she was made to worship her Lord/please her Lord...then why is she trying to do what pleases our human sinful desires?!!!

I don't think that those of us who are in agreement with the post are insuating that. I just happen to think that a a woman can be sexual without showing that much skin. I also have a problem with people saying that Beyonce is grown. Yes legally she is an adult. But she is only 21. As a 32 year old woman, I look back on some of the silly shit that I did at 21 like...whofarted I have absolutely no problem with Janet shaking her ass. At 30 somethin, Miss J is indeed a grown ass woman. But 21...please. Beyonce is going to change and grow (hopefully) so much. I could see her being so...shall we say ...nope I don't want to call her "skanky"...I could see her dressing the way that she does if her parents weren't involved. But with daddy as the manager and mommy as the primary wardrobe person... disbelief As a parent, I just question why parents would put thier child out there like that. What message is she sending. Also, Beyonce's fan base is quite young. What message is she sending to the little girls out there that look up to her? If she didn't have talent, I could see the need. But the child can sang. What is she selling, sex or her voice?

If a woman has a nice figure and she's proud of it, why can't she show it off? Why should it only be limited a husband(which a woman doesn't need)? If I had her shape, I would wear tight clothes and cute outfits that reveal my shape. It does not corrupt society. Society corrupts itself with feelings such as what you said. No one can MAKE someone jealous. Jealousy is a sickness people need to control within themselves. Most people want to be desired both physically and emotionally. Modesty is not always the best thing

Let's do a word association kinda game here. If someone cried out cloud, you might say rain. and if someone shows a clip of Beyonce dancing like that, you won't cry out respect by any chance. I don't know what society you're living in, but a woman dancing in a video means nothing. There are rapists, murders, and wife beaters out there and there is no way in hell they can say "the video made me do it." What corrupts society starts in the home and the enviroment. You have every right to not let your child see the video if you feel it will corrupt him/her. I've only seen parts of the video and from what I've seen she is not anywhere near half naked and when I see her dance, I think "sexy" not bitch whore etc. If you went to a black dance club, you'd probably feel everyone in there was a whore

You are right when you said:"We are all sinners, even the church mother sitting in the front pew.". That's fine for you, but Beyonce's not Muslim...and what's this marriage/protection bullshit? How does marriage protect you from "such filth?" If a man cheats on his wife, how did the marriage protect him or his wife from that?

And as far as" So what if she is Christain?"...

She is supposedly a "believing" woman...
She is not perfect and nor am I, so she must work on it?! she is also preaching!
If she is saying one thing and displaying to me and others something else which goes agasint her teachings...I have a right to critisize!
If she was made to worship her Lord/please her Lord...then why is she trying to do what pleases our human sinful desires?!!!

I've never heard her preach about anything. I've only heard her say that she is a Christian, not a minister
I don't remember anything in the bible where Jesus said being covered up made you a better Christian. That is a man-made insinuation imposed by organized religion to make men feel unresponsible for their devious impluses. Shit, Adam and Eve were butt naked in the jungle until they got a hold of that fucking fruit! We are saved by the Grace of God, not by rules or laws

"what I don't like about this post is that you are insuating that a woman can not be sexual..."

In general, sex sells and that's a sad fact. I personally do not like the over-saturated sex in entertainment, but I don't blame a artist for joining in on it. They want to make money and until society changes what makes them interested by changing what they buy, therefore changing supply & demand, this will continue

As for her daddy being the manager, and?...when I was 18 my mama couldn't tell me shit about what I wore especially if it was coming out of my pocket. She has the right to create her own image how SHE sees fit, not her mama or daddy

I just finished watching Dateline.

During a break they previewed a show with Beyonce that will air next week. In the clip, Beyonce was shown in her house in a sundress -- that was quaint and not overly revealing.

I've seen her many times in tasteful attire.

When she performs, she dresses sexy. Is she selling sex or music? She's selling an entire package.

If one wants to celebrate spirituality, one should turn to gospel music.
If one wants inspiration, one should turn to classical music, anthems.

I think it's important for people to remember that Beyonce sings R&B and Hip Hop.

Like Rock and Roll, it's was born of the carnal nature, the body, the flesh, and all the passion that comes with it. Even the names of such genres hint at this. This is in no way a bad thing. People are multi-faceted. I couldn't live without an outlet for my mind, spirit and body .

A human's sensual side is valuable and doesn't deserve to be shunned. I dare say none of you guys would be here without a celebration of the body and sensuality.

Beyonce's provacative dress, like her rhythmic dances, vibrating notes, and lyrics all fuse together as a celebration of body when she's performing .

You don't see here walking down the street or giving all her interviews dressed this way.

Come on. Hip hop/R&B music is to dance to. Do you understand the sensuality implied by dance. The moves are an echo of sex. And sex isn't bad. Some of you might need sex counseling. And I can't believe you're a member of a Prince site. Prince is/was one of the most eloquent artists to ever celebrate the human body and its wonderful sensuality/sexuality. He likened it to divinity.

So, for someone to call for Beyonce to oppress her sexuality when she's performing music that is inherently supposed to celebrate body-bumping sensuality is ludicrous. It's unbelievable to me.

I know people will swear some hip hop and R&B songs transcend sex. A few do. But that's not the nature of the genre. And I for one am glad. Because when I want higher art, I put on Beethoven.

There is art for the spirit, for the mind, and for the body.

Parents and others who are offended by overt sexuality should turn to something more elevated. You should not be listening to Beyonce's music and feigning offense. This is an art for those who actually acknowledge they have a carnal side (damn religion has hijacked the word carnal and made it so bad) and want to explore it.

P.S. I'm watching Beyonce on NBC's Macy's celebration. She has a short sun dress on. Happy? or is it still too short?

My boyfriend and I just had this discussion today. When I saw her video I was wondering the same thing, why did she have to go the skimpy clothes route, I guess she wanted to make sure that she was the star, not Kelly, who was getting all the publicity for a second there. I also thought it was sad that the parents, being manager and stylist presenting their daughter in that manner. Sure she's grown, but they are still her parents, and still her manager and stylist. As someone already mentioned she'll come out with a book in another few years about her parents treatment/abuse. My boyfriend said, "Her parents want to make money, they're doing whatever they can to stay on top in the business".

I just wish they would hire a capable beautician to do something with that childs' hair, it always look a mess. lol Just my twocents.

you say "until society changes what makes them interested by changing what they buy, therefore changing supply & demand, this will continue" but don't you realize the catch 22 involved here? entertainment was not always saturated with sex. it didn't go that route until the 70's. the only way it will change is when these performers decide that they will no longer prostitute themselves in order to make a buck. i'm not saying people can't wear sexy clothes, but there is no need to be half naked. and if you don't think beyonce is half naked in that video then you prove my point. we have become numb to the amount of sex we see on a daily basis. there was a time when what she wears would be shameful or, at least, controversial. now its just the norm. that seems sad to me. all of these litle girls growing up thinking that their sexiness is what makes them cool...so sad. i know these celebs are not babysitters, nor are they anyone else's parents, but where is the respect? don't tell me there is self respect because if there was they would keep the clothes on and STILL get paid. it really is just short of prostitution. sex sells...on the corner too.

The "sexiness" is to sell records to those with the little boy and girl mentality. Women like Erykah Badu, Sade, and even Ani Difranco are more sexy to the mature man/woman. These women aren't all about the smoke and mirrors and have much more depth, which shows in their works. That's not to say that Beyonce won't get there some day-- she's still a baby.
The same applies for men. Instead of selling their own bodies-- except for LL-- men act like pimps with hordes of greased-up women that all look the same (video hoes).
The fact that we're talking about this instead of her music tells you something. I don't watch many videos so I'm not really influenced by visions of Beyonce when I hear her music. Thus, the music isn't that notable for me

ok, let me start off by saying i think she is a beautiful and talented singer. destiny's child and her solo stuff are always pretty good and her new solo song is great! my only problem with her is the fact that with every increase of her fame, i see a decrease of her clothes. i don't get it. isn't this the same woman who sang, in Survivor, "I'm not gonna compromise my christianity"? i'm not casting stones or anything like that, so don't jump on my back. i'm just curious as to when beyonce decided she would show as much skin as possible in order to sell a record. i don't remember Destiny's Child showing too much skin and i haven't almost seen kelly rowland's coochie or titties. so what is the deal with beyonce. and one last thing...isn't her FATHER her manager. something is wrong with that. its like he's selling his daughter as a sex symbol.

((Look))
Don't over-react. It is summer time and little less cloths
Is in context to the time of year. She still carries herself with class and doesn't come off like a snob.

What I'd love to see is a retro picture (vanity 6 style: Rollingstone photo)
Of her Pink and Chili In the exact pose.
That would be awesome!!
But enough already with the Tina Turner comparisons
she doesn't nearly have the Spirit!

"But hay"
It's all part of the show.
I think she has a good head on her shoulders!
We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced
when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.
