Rick James and Teena Marie---what happened??

Many months ago,Rick James and Teena Marie announced major plans to do a spring 2003 reunion tour.Rick mentioned a new double-CD that he was gonna release independently.Last year,Teena signed a new recording contract with Cash Money Records and her new CD 'Black Reign' was supposed to be released in March.Sadly, none of these projects have materialized. And if you go their official sites, there is not a shred of news or info about ANY upcoming projects. In fact, their sites haven't been updated in months. The message board at Rick's site (www.RickJames.com) is filled with comments by anxious, impatient fans who just wanna hear an update. What's going on?

Has anyone heard any news or rumors?

Well I heard that they(Rick & Ladt T) already recorded couple of "vintage" tracks 4 the LP. As 4 their live shows, it wouldn't suprice me if they parted.

I'm thrilled that she's signed to Cash Money Records. At this point,I just want a new album from her! I don't care how it's gonna be released.Besides, she has tried the independent thing before and it was a disaster (she says that she has boxes and boxes of her last CD 'Passion Play' that were never distributed!).But I just wonder what the hold up is? Where is the new album?!

Thats really good 2 hear 4 a change smile most of the people who know that always give me the "hrmph" look when I talk about it. Hell, even the DJs are complaining about the cash money thang.

Speaking of her 'Passion Play'? I heard her early last year in some of the main radio stations in NYC(Ladies Night in Hot.97 I think) and I remember her talking about it and she said that she's going 2 release half of the songs in there with the help of a major record company(I don't know if she was signed yet) but she eknowledged that most of these songs need 2 be heard one way or another. So I think she wants to release 'em just like everybody wants to, the thang she needs is the motivation [$$$] and gladly I heard someone in the radio last month say that she and Angela Winbush are about 2 finish their LPs.

Sigh...don't get me started on this topic. I've been waiting for what seems like years for some more projects from these two to be released, but it seems like all we've been getting are empty promises. I actually had hope when I heard all the buzz of her signing with Cash Money. But even that seems the same! The time is SO right for them to release some new and more, remastered old shit AND some live DVDs that it's killing me! sad

I think Teena Marie is doing a local gig here in L.A. DavidEye if you live in the L.A. area I think it's listed in the L.A. Weekley.

i know. i would LOVE to hear so something new released from her too! but, you know, it's so hard as an artist to release a cd without the proper distribution deal backing the record company who backs you...i really believe that she dosen't mean for it all to look like empty promises, but the "business" side of the music business is kinda meant to keep ya down unless you're under 30 and charting in the hot 100 these days...sad, but true. when you're an artist and your whole life is living and breathing music- trust me, most of those folks want to be making AND releasing records and playing out all the time, but, unfortunately "the game" is just not set up to enable them to do that. sucks for us real music lovers, though, huh?

If you go to the Rick James message board, you will see alot of fans sharing the same view, which I agree with too...

If the new music is not gonna be released soon, that's fine,we can deal with that.If the tour has been cancelled or delayed, fine,we can deal with that too.If you're gonna retire, that's tragic, but again,we will get over it.But at least TELL US SOMETHING!!! What's the point in having "official" sites if you're not gonna keep your fans updated on all your activities?

yeah, yeah..

new collaboration, new tour together
WHATEVER.

What I want to know is..

WHY did "Slick Rick" DENY for so long that he was, um..
"putting his iron in Teena's fire"?

WHAT?
BACK when she 1st came on the scene?
when she was "in her prime" (physically & musically)

Teena was like a MAJOR crush for me, for a good bit of time..

WHY did Rick FRONT for so long?
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..
