80s music this is my opinion, I was spoiled in the 80s, I think the 80s music was the best music of any other decade in the history of music, even music that sucked then is better than now, Prince, Michael,Madonna, Bruce, rap, etc., etc., in a cashzmere sweata, whos with me? | |

I love the 80's, and I wish I was born 10yrs earlier.. Would had loved to be a teenager in the 80's.. but oh life goes on.. Well 80's music is good!! I love it!!! All my favourite artists are so 80's!!.. Prince, George Michael/wham!, Limahl/kajagoogoo, Red H ot Chili peppers and well Bowie, but he's been around since the 60's anyway..  .. I Love the 80's!!.. I also love the 80's and miss the variety of music that was considered main stream at the time. I also miss the "fun" element music carried back then. Today everything is in some form or another connected to "booty".
Also,it kills me today to see people wearing jeans, and T-shirts and sports Jersey's to the GRAMMYS! Why don't artist "Dress Up" anymore? A couple of years ago, even Janet Jackson presented an award in jeans and a cut-off blouse at the GRAMMYS! I so miss the 80's. By the way my favorite time is music is from 76 to 86. Music "shifted" in 87, then again in 92 and hasn't been the same since. Personally, I believe the simultaneous explosion of NWA and 2 Live Crew are big factors in what we see today. Think about what they both brought to the table musically and image wise, and see if there is a link between that and what has become the "norm" today in music, in dance, in fashion, ect., nationwide. I know I strayed off topic but I'm kind of in a rambling mood. I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin. | |

In the 80's, REM, U2, The Police, Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince were at the creative heights of their careers. The 80's brought us new wave and new jack swing. The music video forever transformed how records were made, marketed and sold. And, perhaps most importantly, the 1980's spawned a new, revolutionary genre of music, hip-hop.
You can make a strong case for 1980's music. Too bad conventional wisdom emphasizes the one-hit wonders over these accomplishments. Footnote: the one-hit wonders of the 80's beat the one-hit wonders of the 70's and 60's by a mile, IMHO. whatever they did in the 80's was already done in the 70's, what u thought
the 80's introduced electronic music, which made it bad for music now. People stop using real insturments and started playing those drum machines... I will admit the 80's had some pretty good, but nothing will ever compare 2 the stuff in the 70's. I think the 70's just represented a whole era of true musicians, who had a artitistic point of view as well. They really where talented, but they weren't smart as far as business is concerend... In the 80's the music was lost, people where more concerned about parties and fashion, other then what made a good album... True the 70's had a ton of musicians who could actually play, but the 70's also had no shortage of well-played songs about nothing. The 80's had some major artists who sang about more than just parties and fashion like The Police, Springsteen, U2, REM, and (sometimes) Prince and MJ. | |

First, there is no such thing as "Old Skool" or however you spell it. ANd it's nothing to do with fear of aging or something like that. It's just a word created by people now to describe something they don't fully know.
I like to think of the 60s through the 80s as a Renaissance in popular music. It's all Rock N' Roll. The 80's though had big creative edge. They're was a futurism in the music, early CyberPunk if you will. The 80's also had sooo many daring new styles to choose from - Funk, Soul and RnB, Rock, New Wave, New Romanics, Gothic Rock, House, Heavy Metal, Speed Metal, Glam Rock,(true) Punk, etc, etc. It was about individuality and being different...fast! It was so much fun that now's Hip Hop only syle or bland Rock/Nu Metal-Pop. I also agree with DavedEye that I too was mesmerized as a kid by all the different music one grew up listening to from Rock to Disco to Soft Rock to New Wave, great variety and adventure! | |
