Whatever happened to Surface?

In the late 80s,I was hooked on an R&B band called Surface.Their music consisted of mellow, intoxicating slow jams and ballads, with the occasional funk track thrown in for good measure. They did three successful albums then just disappeared.

Their first self-titled album came out in 1986 and featured the hit "Happy".Y'all remember this song..."Only you can make me Happy,Happy,so Happy...only you can make me Happy,Happy,so happy".

The second album '2nd Wave'(1988) was even more successful, with the Number One hit "Shower Me With Your Love".It also includes the hits "I Missed","Closer Than Friends" and "You Are My Everything" featuring Regina Belle on background vocals.

The third and final Surface album came out in 1990 and gave them another Number One hit with "The First Time".I always assumed that the lead singer Bernard Jackson was planning a solo career, but he hasn't really been heard from since.

So,my question is,whatever happened to Surface? Anybody got an info?

Unfortunately, they broke up several years ago. I have a friend who knew Bernard Jackson when he was living in Stamford, CT.

Good group for the time but their sound was kinda limited. I just think they played out.
