Donna Summer's 'Bad Girls' CD gets the remastered treatment(due July 29) Y'all remember this album. In the summer of '79,this was THE album to have! Donna Summer's 'Bad Girls' album was one of Disco's brightest moments. Not only is it her greatest, most accomplished work,it stands as one of the strongest and most innovative albums of the 70s.Unlike the typical late-70s Disco album,'Bad Girls' brings a little rock into the mix,and the title track is downright funky.Released as a 2-record set in May 1979,'Bad Girls' became a multi-platinum smash, generating several Top 10 singles (two of which went straight to Number One).
The album has now been re-mastered and includes a bonus disc featuring 12" versions of hits from before and after the album. The first CD features one extra track in it's own right: the previously unreleased demo version of the title track.Remastered from the original tapes,'Bad Girls' is bulked up with complete lyrics, session credits, photos and an essay. Please note, the full tracklist hasn't been posted yet.I already know what's gonna be on the first disc, but for the second CD,I'm sorta guessing...lol...so far,all I know is that it will include the "MacArthur Park Suite" and the rare long version of "On The Radio".So,here's a look at what you can expect... DONNA SUMMER 'BAD GIRLS' REMASTERED DELUXE EDITION (DUE JULY 29 ON POLYGRAM/UNIVERSAL) DISC 1--- "Hot Stuff" "Bad Girls" "Love Will Always Find You" "Walk Away" "Dim All The Lights" "Journey To The Center Of Your Heart" "One Night In A Lifetime" "Can't Get To Sleep At Night" "On My Honor" "There Will Always Be A You" "All Through The Night" "My Baby Understands" "Our Love" "Lucky" "Sunset People" "Bad Girls" (previously unreleased demo version) DISC 2---Bonus 12" Versions "Mac Arthur Park Suite (MacArthur Park/One Of A Kind/Heaven Knows/MacArthur Park(reprise)" "On The Radio" (Long Version from the "Foxes" movie soundtrack) "Last Dance" (12" Version")*** "Dim All the Lights" (12" Version)*** "Enough Is Enough" (12" Version)*** "I Feel Love" (12" Version)*** "Walk Away" (12" Version)*** "Heaven Knows"(extended version)*** "Sunset People" (extended version)*** ***unconfirmed tracks, but likely to appear. so who's buying it? I was going to buy it but to be honest with you the stuff on the second disc kind of sucks. Its all just a rehash on non-"Bad Girls" tracks? What gives? And all those songs on the second disc look very similar to the tracklisting of "the 12" Dance Collection"! I know for sure the McAP suite was on there!
You know, Donna was really producitvy in the seventies, in some cases releasing 2 albums a year. In 1977, she released one full album ("I Remember Yesterday") a double album ("Once Upon A Time"), the theme from "The Deep" and I think she did a tour. I guess when she did an album she threw nothing out becuase I would have expected to see unheard of tracks. For all my complaining I'll still buy it but I would have prefered a "Once Upon A Time..." reiusse although it isn't likely since it wasn't one of her most memorable albums, hits wise. I know that there were alternative mixes of the electronic songs on there. I would love to hear those!

The second disc is indeed disappointing because most of those 12" versions can already be found on the 'Dance Collection' CD that came out in 1987.It's also disappointing that the first disc only includes *ONE* previously unreleased song,a demo version of "Bad Girls".By comparison, Diana Ross' 'Diana' CD reissue includes the entire unreleased "Chic mix" of her album,as well as a second disc filled with outtakes and rarities.
But hey,it will still be nice to have a remastered version of one of the greatest disco albums of all time.

I just hope that they change the list and manage the find something that not only fans might not have but is closer related to "Bad Girls". I was just listening to BGs the other day. It wa such a great album. I think I'll get the collection anyway. Such a rip off though.

Here is the confirmed tracklist for the second (bonus) disc of 12" versions...
"I Feel Love" "Last Dance" "MacArthur Park Suite" "Hot Stuff" "Bad Girls" "Walk Away" "Dim All The Lights" "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" "On The Radio" a few thoughts... ***It will be cool having the "MacArthur Park Suite",since it's nowhere to be found on the 'Live and More' CD (I guess they ran out of room?) ***The long extended mix of "Walk Away" is extremely rare and I don't think too many people have ever heard it.This song has some weird history behind it.It was released as a single over a year *AFTER* Donna had left Casablanca Records and signed with Geffen. Her old label released it around the SAME TIME that Donna's new single "The Wanderer" (her Geffen debut) was released! So,for a few weeks in the fall of 1980,Donna had two singles competing with each other on the charts...lol... As a result,"Walk Away" didn't do so well. But,it's a highlight of the 'Bad Girls' album. ***The extended version of "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" is terrible.I've never considered this to be one of Donna's best songs anyway, and the long version has even ME saying..."enough IS enough!"...lol...

Here is the track listing of a 1987 Cd full of Casablanca 12-inches titled "The Dance Collection". 1. I Feel Love 2. With Your Love (not on the BG CD but was never a hit or a single. I believe it was a cute throw away track from the TGIF soundtrack) 3. Last Dance 4. MacArthur Park Suite 5. Hot Stuff 6. Walk Away 7. Dim All the Lights 8. No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) - Barbra Streisand Look familiar? Is that "Walk Away" 12-inch that rare? Not sure if this album was popular but was probably one of the last contractual obligations she had to Casablanca (by the time, Polygram). I still want to get the BG DE CD set and hopefully cheap!

Yes,I have 'The Dance Collection' too The version of "Walk Away" on that set is the exact same version you will find tomorrow on the 'BG' Deluxe Edition. It's a rare 12" version,I think it was a promo-only version (not available in stores back then).

A little trivia for y'all... The song "Last Dance" appears in the 1978 'Thank God It's Friday' movie and soundtrack, and it was a HUGE hit in the summer of '78.But,the song was actually recorded a year earlier in the summer of '77,ostensibly for the 'Once Upon A Time' album that Donna was working on.But Neil Bogart (head of Casablanca) heard the song and decided to save it for the movie instead. It's also likely that "With Your Love" is an outtake from 'Once Upon a Time' too.
