1987-88

I had my HS reunion recently, and to get in the mood, I played all the music I was listening to my senior year in HS and my freshman year in college (1987-88). That was a great time for music, IMHO. This is what I was jammin' 2 the last week:

Janet Jackson, "Control"

Prince, "SOTT"

Prince "Lovesexy"

Eric B. & Rakim, "Paid In Full"

Public Enemy, "It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back"

Prince, 12" and B-sides '84-'88

What were y'all listening to back then?

I hate to be a stickler for chronological order, but Rhythm Nation wasn't released until 1989.

You're right. Now that I think about it, it was late 89 at that. That's what happens when you get old... it all becomes one big blur lol

I could make an argument that 1994 was the greatest year in hip-hop, but I find it hard to come up with 2 consecutive years that were better than 1987 and 1988.

Boogie Down Productions - Criminal Minded (1987)
The Beastie Boys - Licensed To Ill
Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
Run DMC - Raising Hell
Slick Rick - The Great Adventures of Slick Rick[/b]
LL Cool J - Bad
DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - He's The DJ...I'm The Rapper
Eric B. & Rakim - Follow The Leader
Stetsasonic - In Full Gear
Boogie Down Productions -
Whodini - Back In Black
Salt N Pepa - Hot Cool & Vicious
EPMD - Strictly Business
Doug E. Fresh - Keep Risin' To The Top
Herb Alpert - Keep Your Eye On Me (1987)
Robbie Nevil - C'est La Vie
Vanessa Williams - The Right Stuff (1988)
Prince - Sign O' The Times

The System - Don't Disturb This Groove
Madonna - Who's That Girl?
Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam - Head To Toe
Jody Watley - Looking For A New Love

You brought out a lot of jams, especially EPMD, Beasties, LL, Robbie Nevil, Alpert/Jackson, and EPMD.

Although I thought Jody Watley's "Still" was kinda tight -- very Prince-esque, especially the video with her boyfriend in the yellow outfit, black hat and Lennon glasses trying to look like Prince.

Anyway, I remember "Wishing Well" and the 1st track, which was cool.
