Jane Child - REMEMBER HER??

One hit wonder- "Don't Want to Fall in Love" - it came out in 1990. She reminded me of Cher's spiked hair days--Jane Child had a spiky top and then these long braids down to her ass and sported a nose ring. Anyway, this song just came on the radio. Good song...wonder what happened to this woman?

I don't want to fall in love.
Love cuts just like a knife. oooh.
You make the night feel good!
I'll fight ya til the end!
Let the rain come down...17 days....

the second cd, "Here not There" was awesome. So sad that I always see it in the bargain bin for like $1!!

So much about this woman I liked.

I'm a sucker for a female singer/songwriter/producer/kickass singer like she was.

SHE WAS THA BOMB! That CD was excellent - I think it was one of the first CD's I purchased... wasnt it DDD (Digital recording, Digital master, Digital format).

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I prefer the "remix version" of Don't Wanna Fall..
it's got a funkier bassline, it "rolls" more..
&.. it's LONGER.

It seemed that she had more in her than "1 hit wonder" potential..
but then again, Welcome To The Real World didn't exactly catapult her to a "higher plane"..
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

Jane Child was/IS amazing - and criminally underrated!
1st album was great - 2nd album even better! (LOVE 'Monument' & 'Sarasvati') (and so will u Blue! org note me!!!) wink
She's always seemed 2 play it real low-key though, definately in it 4 the love of music, and that really comes across in the dynamics of her songs.
Cant wait 2 get my hands on 'Surge' - sounds great!
Would love 2 see her live, that's 4 sho nod

Found this on VH1.com:

The classically trained Jane Child specializes in pleasant synth-pop songwriting, which saw some critics compare her to Prince's more accessible moments.

Signed with Warner Brothers Records, the tracks on her self-titled 1990 debut, including her US number 2 single "Don't Wanna Fall In Love', were certainly difficult to dislike, offering pleasing and technically impeccable state of the art funk-pop. However, there remained something ultimately insubstantial about the collection, which failed to trouble record purchasers in sufficient numbers to make her a commercial proposition.

The delayed follow-up, 1993"s Here NotThere, was a more ambitious album that also failed to connect with record buyers. Child made an unexpected return to recording in the new millennium with the studio collection Surge.
