Don't get me wrong,sometimes I find Lil Kim to be a fascinating performer,and there is no doubt that she can rap.But,as far as her sexuality goes,what point is she trying to make? In the 80s,Prince and Madonna were very sexual but they had a purpose,a *POINT* they were trying to make with it (Prince was essentially trying to prove that sexuality and spirituality are related,while Maddy was trying to demonstrate that sex can be a liberating force,breaking old taboos and stereotypes).But these days,artists (and I use that word loosely) are sleazy just for the sake of being sleazy.They're not really making a statememt at all. ... Every generation has artists who try to push the envelope. Prince and Madonna did their thing in the 80s. Performers who came after them felt they had to push the envelope even further.
Prince and Madonna were onstage in their undies. The only way to go further than that is nudity. Eminem drops his drawz and shows is ass  to the audience. Lil Kim pushes the envelope by showing her boobs.
Courtney Love used to flash her "naughty bits" to the audience. There's not much further that the envelope can be pushed before it's wide open and performers are onstage stark naked. | |
