You guys needs to read the thread called "What can a newbie can get from TTD", it explains it all!
His style and direction is very much like Prince but he really is not a wannabe. He's very unique, I quess that's why alot of Prince fans appreciate him. Until you check out his 5 albums I guess you will always be wondering what the hype is all about.

i've heard stuff from 'im, but i still don't see why.

Well Handclaps, I guess you should stick to "Right Said Fred" for some inspiration!

in 88 I heard all the TTD hype and Prince comparisons, and excitedly bought the record...
I think he sucks | |

Im another thread, I posted "Sananda/TTD has evolved into the artist that Prince fans THINK Prince is" (or something to that extent). It still holds true. He has an incredible voice like Sam Cooke. He has put out unique music that isn't a COPY of someone else and he is a true poet lyrically. He's a multi-instrumentalist and writes his own works. He gives awaqy music to his fans without them having to have to join a club or do anything other than appreciate it and if you like it show some luv by buying it. He embodies all the qualities a TRUE artist is supposed to. In a sense - he is [color=00FF99:2ef6136a37]THE ONE

It's actually quite simple...he can sing.

am listening to his new album right now ... he isnt as "busy" as Prince - in that he doesnt put out an album every year ...
but i think he is actually better ... his last 2-3 albums are classics in my book ... got worn out in both my cd players ...

Wait, wait! U guys think he is BETTER than P? I mean I liked the 1st album, but it was very pretentious and certainly the musicianship had nothing on anything P ever did. I actually liked Neither Fish nor Flesh, but it WAS a "difficult 2nd album" and he was trying too hard to be Prince, but the compolex sounds and ideas just sounded like he was - trying too hard.
After that, I heard the single "Then SHe Kissed Me" (or whatever). It did nothing for me. Lost interest. So, I agree with the original post, apart from his voice (he has a great range), some lyrical pretentions and some stolen dance moves, what the hell is so great about TTD? it's rather sickening that people read the word "pretentious" applied to terence in some far off article somewhere and that's all they can say.
Blah, blah, blah, ...Prince is better... blah, blah...he's pretentious... Please people, how about we stop repeating everyone ELSE"S opinions Anyway, while we're on the subject of pretentious, arrogant fellows let's talk about P. that is a pretentitous, arrogant prick if there ever was one. Anyway, terence's music surely isn't for everyone; not too different from another brilliant artist Kate Bush. they don't quite fit into any one category and their styles are not to be compared to any other artist.

Where do u get off, telling me that my opinion is not my own? I always found the first two TTD albums pretentious. The fact that he ran around calling himself a f-ing genius didn't help much either. Yeah, P's pretentious, but he also has a sense of humour, and shitloads of talent which, 4 me (and yeah, only 4 me), make it forgiveable. It may also have 2 do with age. I was like 11-12 when I got into P, and 17-8 when TTD started telling every1 how brilliant he was, so I proabbly had less tolerance. I quite like KB by the way, tho I'm not a big fan. Anyway, based on your recommendations I'm now listening to "Wildcard" over the web. It's good, but doesn't blow me away. And come on, it's still RIFE with P influence. once you get past the name change, speaking in mazes and other prince similarities you can see that ttd is quite an amazing artist. lyrically he is incredibly gifted (check out "turn the page" and most of the Wildcard cd) and the fact that he's been producing himself since the beginning and always releases really high caliber work speaks volumes. it took me a while to really "get it" with ttd but with Symphony or Damn i was hooked. I wouldn't say he is completely original but he is far more talented than most peeps in the mainstream scene. my only problem with ttd (and it's a recent issue) is his crap attitude. but i won't repeat myself on yet another thread .

I was never a huge fan of TTD although, I have to say he isn't like the usual pimple faced boys that we are all tired of hearing now a days. He is original in his music, passionate and has a tune all on his own. Over the past 2 years learning more about his music and really listening to the old and new stuff i think it is really a work of art. He should be getting more recognition for his work

I will never say TTD is better than Prince. I think its childish to say one is better than the other. But I think that the fact that I like Prince's music, therefore, I like TTD's since their styles are similar. Similar in the way that they have the soul/rock/funk vibe all rolled into one. They both produce interesting and enjoyable records and are very good performers. Maybe TTD did copy a few of Prince's trademark sounds and moves but I can then say Prince borrowed a few pointers from Sly & The Family Stone & Stevie Wonder. Who cares? Just enjoy the music. It's hard for me to believe that if one is into Prince they wouldn't enjoy TTD as well.

Of course we all have our own experiences (and yours with TTD was not the best unfortunately), but apart from my opinion that Sananda / TTD is incredibly talented in so many different ways, he's also a very nice and humble person (I've had the chance to meet him several times and he was very friendly each and every time), who really cares for his fans (meets them after shows signing autographs and talking to them) and is not just interested in getting their money (contrary to some other very talented artist we all know well). This other artist IMHO is all about crap attitude, Sananda definately is not! Hearing from a Prince fan that Sananda has got a crap attitude just sounds totally crazy to me!!! With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! As far as his attitude goes, he's an asshole; at least he was towards me when I met him. Still, I have the greatest respect for his abilities. As for singing, I think he's better than Prince. I like Prince's material (previous material- pre '93) better than Sananda's (pre-Wild Card), but Sananda's singing voice is flawless, while Prince's gets crappy for me at times; especially when he sings nasal. His lower register is my least favorite. Then again, I grew up around MANY black male singers with rich, exquisite lower registers. Even Larry Grahm's baritone KILLS Prince's on every level. Prince's strength is his falsetto, in my opinion. TTD is just a straight up "SANGER" like Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, etc. No denying that.
