Lauryn Hill's "The Miseducation of" I've had this album since about a month after it was first
released but just last week I dug it up again and fell in love with it all over again. It doesn't sound too dated and I just love her lyrics. She writes very clever stuff. More than just the average song- writer and yet just parred down enough to stop it all from ending up pretentious. I guess one could call it 'honest'. At least, that's what it feels like to me. Anyway, I just wanted to give it a thumbs up again. So when is her new album due again?? and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

As a young lady who've been through the same "school" L-Boogie went through, I can't say nothing but 2 agree with you on everything esp the "honesty" part. Thats why ppl couldn't handle it when they heard the Unplugged which I defend everywhere I go.
Anyway, her new LP "Kalumba Phase" is 2 released this fall, God Willing BTW I might sound a lil' too much but I consider "The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill" the modern day version of "Whats Going On". LOL I think you're going 2 hammer me becoz of what I've said but this is my honest opinion about it. It focus alot on issus that touchs the young people and how to appraoch them and deal with them.

Hey, Harle, a lot of us didn't like her "Unplugged" because we found it rambling, monotonous, unorganized, sloppy and self-absorbed. And, we hope her new CD is a return to polished (but no less honest) form.

Hey, Harle, a lot of us didn't like her "Unplugged" because we found it rambling, monotonous, unorganized, sloppy and self-absorbed. And, we hope her new CD is a return to polished (but no less honest) form. I think that most of ppl's problem with the unplugged is obeviously the production and her voice(which sounds natural 2 me and yes raspy). But the reason why I respect that move is becoz its str8 bald! ppl say that D'Angelo, Roots, Erykah, Common and Meshell are raw and yes they're, but can they reach "that" level? Hell the thought of it scare every person on their right minds. Remember when everybody were hounding on Prince when he released "LoveSexy"?? Saying everybody went down the commercial route while good ol' Prince stuck with the raw basics, and now look at how people see LoveSexy(Erykah-Common-The Roots-D'Angelo gave their warmest props 2 that joint). Thats exactly what will happen 2 L-Boogie after 10 years from now! BTW the reason why I like it is becoz she tell us 2 "focus" on the lyrics more, thats how it'll grow in you! I learn something new stuff from it everytime I give it a listen.

Most of the artists from her generation that made incredible
impact with their debut album had a hard time coming up with the next album [mamas gun & voodoo being prime examples] but Lauryn's effort was imo the boldest. She just went and did that unplugged full of new songs and speeches and whatever people think of it, it's a better 2nd album than any other could have been. It would have been dogged by people even if it had been a very very good, polished record. It's just too hard nowadays to beat that 1st mamoth record. So what better way to follow it up than with this kind of set. In a way it's a clean slate. To say "stop with all these expectations and hypes, just chill people, it'll be ok but I'll do it my way and in my time". No matter what others might think of it, years down the line it's probably gonna be one of her own most cherished albums. I know it will be one of mine. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Perhaps I said it rather poorly but I didn't mean to diss voodoo since I think it's a rather stunning album. It's just that after their first record is such a huge hit, the press and public start to expect so much and almost act as if it's an artists duty to "top" that record with something even more spectacular etc etc. Mamas Gun and Voodoo were both a long time in the making and I can't help but feel that in a different environment where an artist would be allowed to release 2 or 3 albums a year without having to pull singles and promotion and shit off them, that Erykah and D'angelo would have both released some other things earlier on. So it's not to say that their albums aren't good but just to say that, well I don't know really. I thought I had a point but I think I lost it somewhere Anyway, my point doesn't matter really anyway. I like all those albums so I should just shut up. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

i think the unplugged set was just a collection of demos she had and wanted some feedback on the material. most likely, she was also "forced" to release something by the record company. it wasn't meant to be miseducation part 2, and i think people wanted that. i like it a lot. the only problem i have with it is the repitition. it's not boring or anything like that, but it does have the same chords throughout. it needs some more instrumentation in the studio imo. i love it though and listen to it often for the lyrical content and heart within it.

This CD came out in 1998,the same year that Madonna released 'Ray Of Light'.I used to play these two CDs back to back. Two strong, talented, amazing female artists looking into their souls and coming up with earth-shatterring,mindblowing albums that pretty much topped everything else released that year.

IMHO, Lauryn slipped when she made "Unplugged." A lot of people really like it, but it put me to sleep and I was very disappointed with it. I just hope that her new album contains more instruments than her playing the guitar. Bring back the drums, bass, piano, organs, clavinet, horns, etc... That's the L-Boogie I love!!!

Right On.I wasn't feeling that Madd Truck Driver Vibe with Her Stomping&Pounding the Guitar. as for Miseducation it was Cooler at the time but after a while I got tired with it because I use to listen to it all the time.I still respect it but haven't felt the urge to crank it up in a few years.still She has that "IT" to come back Strong IMHO.mistermaxxx

I love the unplugged cd. It was very much raw and stripped down. I thought it was the heart of Lauryn for that moment. VERY spiritual and real.
Miseducation...love it just the same.

I don't think anyone has a problem with L.H.'s vocals. The unplugged was just crap. They should have unplugged the project. People keep defending it because they bought that crap. Notice the person starting the thread rediscovered " The Miseducation" not the "Uncrappy" Album.
(Just admit that Unplugged is Uncrappy out loud. You'll feel much better)

(Just admit that Unplugged is Uncrappy out loud. You'll feel much better) I liked the 'Unplugged' CD.I wonder, are you guys even listening to the lyrics? Lauryn is making some profound statements on that album. But,everyone seems to be focused more on her guitar-playing and the rawness of it all.No one is even mentioning the lyrics!
