I Really Respect Slyeena Johnson's Hustle I mean the woman have been in this game 4 a minute now(since 95) and she still struggling to get props from them "middle men" and the rest of the industry folks.
I'm a huge fan of this sistah but after I read her bio/interviews, I've gained a whole new level of respect n' love for her because of the way she struggled through bad relationships and industrey folks. Anyway, I just picked up her VERY 1ST SOLO DEBUT album "Love Hangover"(the one b4 Chapter 1.) and I was really amazed by what I've just heard. I didn't knew that homegirl could make a good "Quite Storm" record, you could safely say that this LP carrys the jazzy, sexy, airy and Chi-Town's version of Sade(so to speak) she paid a good tribute 2 the Chicago music. I had her Chapter 1 & 2 records but this one is def different than both of them. I just wish she could do another album like that again! I heard that Alicia Mayers said in some radio interview in Okaland this year that she felt proud when she heard Slyeena's version of "If You Play Your Cards Right". And lol I'm still tripping on how cute the "Guess What" video looks Any fans?

Personally, I was turned off by her first single "Heard It All Before" When she dropped that song, there was already a ton of man bashing songs on the air and hers just seemed to add to the pile. She's got a good voice, but she was already doing genre-specific music as it was. I'm sure she alienated a percentage of the black male audience that otherwise might have paid her a little more attention. A simple rule for new artists - DON'T START YOUR CAREER BY BASHING OTHERS (unless its done comically). Just like a rapper who starts out with a song called "Bitches Ain't Shit But Holes To Me" is destined to loose a few female listeners on his next release, Syleena probably has fewer guys wanting to hear her new material. Because I liked her voice, I'll check out her new material. First impressions are a mutha, though...ya know?

"Heard It All B4" wasn't hers but she's "IN THE FLESH" when it comes 2 brothas too I do understand where u coming from since my younger brotha said the very same thang According 2 her, she said that she met a guy backstage who said 2 her "I'm a huge fan and I love your voice but be easy with the fellas" so lol you ain't the only one who feels this way. But as a woman, I kinda understand the bitterness laying beneath that sista's chest since she broke free from a very messy and abusive relationship who've longed for 5 years. She tells it from a woman's point of view without disrespecting the bruthas by going through "Your D ain't good and you're a one minute man" saga, you feel me? She talks about issues that only [GROWN] women go through and feel. I know I do relate 2 her music which is why I made a tribute thread 2 her! Personaly, I neva took any of them women-bashing records seriously becoz one thang 4 sure that I'm positive about is[I'm nothing like thses ladies] I know myself and I know where I stand. I tell the same thang 2 my male friends who get upset when they hear men-bashing records, if you're good and you know it then none of these thangs are important.
