David Ryan Harris

Have any of you heard of this guy? he's phenomenal.

I think everytime I put in his CD, I make this same post up here - DEFINITELY check out some of his songs at www.ifihadadime.com - Lenny Kravitz, Prince, Sly, Stevie kind of stuff.

THE WORLD IS WAITING TO HEAR THIS MAN.

I thought there were more - under multi-media, there's like 8 or 9 songs from the different bands he's been in. DEFINITELY check them all out. He still plays most of those acoustically at his live shows.

Also check out his site: www.davidryanharris.com.

David Ryan Harris is one of the baddest cats to surface in YEARS. If Lenny Kravitz were a genius, he'd be DRH. Songs like "Nothing More To Say" put him MILES ahead of Lenny. He's more along the caliber of Stevie. I didn't get into his work with Follow For Now until after I had his CD, but I gotta say, I'm feelin' his output a lot more than Prince's. I like the lyrics to "Genie". Clever. "King Karma" stomps anything Lenny ever did. He fits in that genre, 'cept he doesn't need the looks and gimicks. He's got skillz.

The CD I think you're talking about - the one with cover photo of him in long dreads, standing in the lake? That one is awesome. He recently put out another solo acoustic record that's AWESOME.

He WAS in Brand New Immortals, but they broke up last year, and he went back solo again.

BUT - He's now working with the guy that sang "your body is a wonderland" - gonna be recording/touring with him this year.

I LOVE David Ryan Harris. I used to work at Eddie's Attic, and I would love it when he used to play there. He was the only musician that I would go up there to see even if I wasn't working. It was weird, because not too many people would ever show up to his shows, but in my opinion, he was one of the better performers to play there. It didn't hurt my opinion of him when he performed an acoustic cover of 'Pop Life'!

So David is working with John Mayer, eh? I think that will be beneficial for both of their musical careers.

He actually played there (at Eddie's) this past Wednesday, but I didn't go. Did you? (I noticed you also live in Atlanta) Does he have a website?

David Ryan Harris .com, of course!
and there is also If I Had A Dime.com. Its so nice to know that there are other admirers of his music out there. He seems so unnoticed to me. I'm nowhere near the ATL, but ever since I discovered his first CD, I've been checkin' out his work. Isn't he married to Deon Farris? Somebody somewhere told me that. It seems like he's doing more acoustic stuff now than before. I really like the more edgy material. If he ever got to open up for Lenny K, I think Lenny would get blown off the stage and more people would be hip to David, or at least be INTERESTED. Its a shame how someone like him gets so little luv while half-assed cats like L.K. get pushed so far forward. Personally, I think he's written some of the best material I've heard in the past DECADE. Also, I'm surprised he's never been compared to Seal. He has sort of a Seal meets Stevie thang going on. He's got the type of first CD that any artist can be proud of. NO FILLER SONGS WHATSOEVER. Maybe Prince needs to get hip to him and get inspired to bump his game up a little.

He's divorced, and it's not to Deon Farris. I don't know what his marital status is now, but I do know that he was macking on a co-worker of mine a couple years ago. shrug Enough about that...

I can definitely see the Seal/Stevie comparison. Like I said before, hopefully he'll start to get the exposure that he deserves by working with John. I didn't realize the DRH wasn't just a local thing--that's encouraging. He's been at this for so long now, he has to get a break somehow, right?

HE PLAYED HERE LAST WEDNESDAY?

AND THAT is why nobody's heard of him. His promotional skills are NIL. Every band he's been in has been AWESOME, from Follow For Now to Brand New Immortals, to solo gigs... but I'm ALWAYS hearing bout his gigs 3 DAYS AFTER he played!

I know he moved to L.A., so his Atlanta gigs are few and far between now. His mailing list doesn't always give you the scoop, and his website ain't got NOTHING on upcoming gigs, except some cruise coming up.

The first time I heard of David Ryan Harris was with "Follow For Now" when I got an opportunity to meet and see his band perform live at the TLA in Philly years ago. I remember that David told me that he was just about to get married or engaged. I remember telling him to be aware of the fact that a very active career in music and being on the road for a lenght of time can and will be extremely trying on a marriage. Needless to say a man in love can not forsee this, I know from personal experience. David as a song writer and musician is EXTREMELY UNDERATED!!! I wish nothing but the best for David.
