Gimme Your Favorite George Michael Song/Video and Why?

Hey... it's been awhile.

From Wham! to his amazing solo career, this man can write, sing, dance and perform. He was devastatingly handsome in the 80's... artistic and outed in the 90's, and moody and distant in the 00's.

He has put out some great albums, and some memorable videos.

So - what's your fave George Michael song? What's your fave video... and why?

Mine:

Song - "Waiting For The Day"
Album - "Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1"
Video - "I Want Your Sex"

... and you? hmmm
[PRINCE 4EVER!]

I really liked Father Figure. What was that song he did about the teacher?

and teacher
there are things
that I still have to learn
and the last one I had made me cry
so I don't wanna learn to
hold you
& touch you, oh
think that you're mine...

Liked that one too biggrin Video? Hmm, I guess Father Figure on that too smile

"I'm never gonna dance again
Guilty feet have got no rhythm
Though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool
Shoulda known better than to cheat a friend
A wasted chance that I've been givin'
So,I'm never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you"

Man,you guys just don't know how much I love that song smile

Ohh one of my favourite threads!!!
I think its very hard to pick out some songs you prefer, when you're a hardcore fan, its very hard to pick out one or two songs.. but I do have some I like more and some I like less.. I like a lot of Wham!'s songs.. I like Careless Whisper, Wake me up before you go go, everything she wants, I'm your man, edge of heaven, and so and so and so on..
George as a solo aritst.. Faith, I want your sex, one more try, father figure, waiting for the day, soul free, outside, shoot the dog.. man I love all of his songs! he's so talented!!

- Videos? Well everyone he's in.. wink

"Kissing A Fool" I think he was talking about theat boy he was with on WHAM! I think he was talin 2 him. Probably why he saved that 4 the last part of the Faith album. I never payed attention 2 it until I heard it on the Greatest Hits album, 2 my surprise I already had it. It is just very very vocally good and tru 2 itself

""Father Figure" would b another one in the battle. GOT DAMN that is the shit! No wonder it went #1.

Album: Faith of course

Video:"I Knew U Were Waiting 4 Me" & "Killer"
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Fave song: Praying For Time. Because he took it higher to anothernlevel with that one. Why it didn't become a standard I will never know.

Fav Vid: Freedom 90. Becaus its sexy, classy and trashy. Ritts did it I believe. Ritts was the man. This is also tied for fav song.

'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' is just an awesome, emotional rendetion - love it.

But as 4 something HE wrote, Id go 4: 'You Have Been Loved'

Video: 'Freeek' - a HUGELY underrated song, this was a VERY close second in the above catagory. Still, as He recently said Himself, He doesnt really care anymore - He's had His time, and is more than happy with the way His career currently stands, He has more than enough money 2 live out His days with the people He cares and loves.

Gotta give the guy credit 4 not talking B.S.

BRING FORTH THAT ALBUM GM! nod

FATHER FIGURE is the best GM song I've heard. I just feel what he's saying, how he says it. The music may seem "sparse", but really, there's just enough there to set the mood of the song. My favorite part of the song is the bridge:

if you are the desert, I'll be the sea
if you ever hunger, hunger for me
whatever you ask for, that's what I'll be
so when you remember the ones who have lied
who said that they cared but then laughed as you cried
beautiful darling.. don't think of me...

Deep.

This is also a song I like to do at a karaoke bar; at the risk of being immodest, I do it rather well, & I always get.. "positive feedback", particularly from some females in the audience..

Elsewhere, I really like Freedom '90..
who knew then- when the song came out- how "autobiographical" this song would be. Many of the lyrics here could apply to almost anyone.
Again, good music backs up the well written lyrics.

Also: Kissing A Fool.. VERY beautiful, romantic music, with a jazzy, "big band" feel to it.

Going back to his Wham! days:

Everything She Wants - rather funky, the first Wham! song that I really liked. I always prefer listening to the longer (12"?) version of the song..
my favorite line in this song is

they told me marriage was a 'give-&-take'
well you've shown me you can take
you've got some giving to do

Brilliant line, & I can relate to it..

I liked the 1st version of Freedom, though it sounds almost "too poppy" & that made it take a while to grow on me. I liked how they were playing soccer in the video.. it's generally been rare to see "rock stars" show themselves playing some kind of sport. I still can't stand to listen to Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.. just TOO POPPY & TOO SWEET for me..

I didn't like Careless Whisper when it 1st came out, in part because it got PLAYED TO DEATH on the radio. For a good while there, you couldn't turn on most radio stations & not hear that song. Eventually though, the song grew on me, & I think it's 1 of his best.

In terms of Wham!, it became clear very quickly who was the talent in that group..
Andrew "I'm just along for the ride" Ridgely did well to stay with George for as long as he did. After Wham! broke up (e.g., George decided to take his talent to the next level), didn't Andrew release a solo album that (surprise, surprise) didn't do all that well? & then, didn't he get into racing? If I recall, he wasn't a smashing success there either..

good thing he was able to marry 1 of the members of Bananarama, even if that goes down as the last "noteworthy" thing Andrew accomplished in his professional career.
(Damn, I can't think of that Bananarama singer's name..
hm.. shows how much staying power they had too, huh?)

I Want Your Sex
was alright as a song.. somewhat overrated I would even say. The song title was "controversial" at the time it came out. I remember people making all this noise about the title- MTV too, but they still managed to put the video into their rotation, didn't they? I didn't think much of how George "capitulated" by adding that little "disclaimer" to the beginning of the video when they showed it on tv..
I WOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT. Either show the video as is, or not at all.

So, while FATHER FIGURE is my favorite GM song,
I doubt I would've like it or anything else by GM or Wham! had it not been for

EVERYTHING SHE WANTS.

Props to George for his singing & music ability.
His overall body of work should get him in that infamous "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame" 1 day..
I'll see you tonight..

Song: Fastlove- This song is just great to dance to, and I never get tired of hearing it!

Video: well, this is a hard one, but I got to give it up to him on the Outside video, because its just too damned funny!

Album: Again, that's a hard one, but I'll pick Older

I love all of George's solo work. He is amazing. Most of his songs bring tears to my eyes. I love "waiting for the day". I could name many, many others but you asked for the favourite. George rocks! I wish he would release more music.
