does music move you?

I am moved by music most of the time and I usually only buy what moves me. When I hear a song I have all these thoughts and am pulled by the words, melody and emotion thats displayed in the song. Like when Gladys sings Neither One Of Us, or when Jimi and Stevie Ray play Little Wing, etc.that shit pulls at me. I also am full of thoughts of who wrote what, what the words mean, who produced it etc. Sometimes I wish I could be like those who dont give a damn about music and just hear a song period and go on to the next one. It must be easy for them, like bliss. I do know that being moved by music makes me inspired in a LOT a of areas. The right song at the right time, or even one that moves me inspires me and changes me each time. Right now I am being inspired as of late by certain music and its moving me. Thank god for other peoples artistry and inspiration. I fel like I channel it myself. Respect to anyone creating music period.

Absolutely! there are songs that I find great because of their lack of depth, and just the fun feeling but sometimes...
i'm alone at home and my boyfriend is away for a couple of days and on my cd-player is "into my arms" from nick cave. The song makes me long even more to him, and simply expresses the pure love, admiration and craving you can have for someone you love. other fav's; tom waits(closing time completely), joni mitchel; both sides now, buckley's version of halleluja, ...
most of sade's "lovers rock"; timeless beauty...

I can't wait to see him on monday... sad

I totally agree with you on this. Music may have a lovely melody but it's the words that get me everytime. Songs have helped me to celebrate, be angry and to mourn. I have also wondered about the story and the person who wrote the story.

But what fun is that? If it only makes someone non-chalant then it's nothing special. It's only entertainment to some people, and that's fine for them. But to those who it affects the most it's culture and art. When I hear "All Blues" or the title track to "In A Silent Way" I'm reminded of the fact that sometimes it doesn't even have to have lyrics, because there is lyricism in the way the most elite musicians play.

The very first record I ever heard that made me contemplate life is Stevie's "Living For The City." And I was about 7 or 8 years old when I first heard it. I was fascinated by that record then, and I'm equally fascinated by it now. It still hits me hard, and it made even an 8 year old realize that music could be so much more than just entertainment. Things like this come from an artist's honest soul.

Nothing wrong at all with music for the sake of entertainment alone, but there is room for the other side of the coin too. And that's why many of these artists are special, and why some don't like being called an "entertainer" or calling the music a "product." They bring more to the table than simply shaking your groove thang. For those of us who don't wear the stiff suits and make the marketing decisions it's about more than seeing the world through musical commerce alone.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Music cannot help but move me. I just put on "Innervisions" today and WOW- I was touched. Art in general is the most pure and meaningful means of expression. Its purpose is to move you. I'm glad I'm privy.

I remember when I bought Songs in the Key of Life...that whole album moved me. It was the first revelation for me and then I went back and found Marvin Gaye. till then I was loving the bubblegum... jackson 5 the sylvers, but that album changed my life. He opened the door to Prince for me beacuse they listed him as the "new Stevie Wonder" Lyrics have always touched me always, Stevie made me listen.

This is part of the reason why I love Bob Dylan so much. His lyrics are so moving. Many of his songs bring tears to my eyes. If a song doesn't move me, I can not enjoy it. I have to be moved in some way, whether it's in a fun way (like Sexy MF), whether my heart strings are being pulled (Bob Dylan) or whether the song makes me think about something (U2 - Sunday bloody Sunday). Whatever it is, I have to be moved.

When I was little I didn't get it. I didn't pay attention to lyrics, I let the beat move me. So, I just didn't understand what my mom was feeling when she played Marvin, Otis, Sam, Jackie, Al. Now, I SO get it! I'm feeling all of these artist now. Al Green's "I'm Still In Love With You" album moves me so much!

But, I have to admit often it's still the beat that gets me moving, physically.

YES!!! music

I love that feeling of hearing an amazing piece of music for the first time. I'm stunned. I can hardly believe something so beautiful exsists. I used to stare at the speakers while listening intently. I used to want to crawl in there, and be wherever it was coming from.

Music gets inside me like nothing else. There is no such thing as background music to me. I hear it all. I can't imagine what people who don't get into music feel like.

RD-

You are one of my favs on the Org. With this post, I understand a little more why that is. You rock! headbang

Music has had an affect on me my whole life. I can use it as a gauge for what was going on in my life at a certain time. I can use it for romancing, dancing, anger, chilling and anything else you can think of. Sometimes it makes me cry, sometimes it makes me laugh and sometimes I just have to hear something 27 times before I can listen to anything else.

In the car, at work, at home, no matter where I'm at, there's a soundtrack to my life (includes Prince). That's why I play music, I just have to. There isn't an option for me.

As far as wishing I could just hear something and not be moved by it, I'd rather be dead. My idea of hell would be to be born deaf.

without a doubt.no matter what is happening in the world or what you are dealing with Be it Good or Bad there always seems to be a Song that reflects the Moment&time you were doing whatever was going on&Nothing else touches you like the Power of Music.it's the family Portrait you always seem to remember the most IMHO.

Music is one of the true treasures of this world.
Imagine that musical notes, when arranged in a certain way, can make us feel incredible emotions.

Happiness, sadness, fear...the list goes on.

What a powerful thing music is.

I don't think I could live without it.
And yes, I buy music which moves me.
But remember, that music can 'move' you in different ways.

Some tracks are just funky with such a killer beat that it makes me wanna shake my thang! Some songs bring out the sentimental side of a person...
