JUDITH HILL - Letters From A Black Widow

Just got to see Judith for the 7th time LIVE, here at NYC's Mercury Lounge, great vibe, great small venue. Her and the band on a level I cant even describe. She basically played the entire new album which is out 4/26 "Letters From A Black Widow" also played "Cry Cry Cry" which was from the debut that was recorded at Paisly Park. But tonight was all about the new record, also Vinyl was for sale for the new album, her mom doing the merch table after the show. An Amazing new record, but where this goes to new heights and some she has not spoken of in public, also (her first time playing this song) was BLACK WIDOW the song, she mentioned Prince's death but also how people made accusations about her, also because she was working with MJ, she talked of NOT wanting to continue because of all the "talk" about her, suffering from deep depression and also ANGER at Prince for going. "Black Widow" is a track every Prince fan needs to hear, its scary, its got a crazy solo where she is almost channeling him, but her also being yelled at and called the "Black Widow" and her screaming back "thats not my name, you dont know me!" Then a very haunting line from the background voice, "You killed MJ and PRince". This song is off the charts, also because this is what people were saying and calling her, and plenty on this site too. Eight Years later its safe to say Prince choose his path, no one could stop him, he was isolated and he lived that way and died that way. He was grown man who made those choices, no one killed him, he turned away people, help, for whatever reason that is what he did. The fact that this society blamed Judith for this and Mj or someone had some "conspiracy" theory around this shows that too many people have voices and should not.

In this context, it is worth pointing out the excellent documentation "20 Feet From Stardom", in which Judith Hill also featured. Mentions the time with MJ, and how she tries to make the jump from background singer to solo artist. Overall very good movie...

Can't wait for her new album, and wished she would come over to Hamburg to play live biggrin

First, i don't recall any real momentum about her being a reason for Prince's passing. I'm sure people said things but, it's all so dumb. She had no fault at all...it's just, stupid.

Second, I was blown away by how talented she actually is. That voice...amazing. Piano, amazing....but I had no idea she played guitar like that. If she comes to Toronto, I'm buying tickets ...no issue.

I recall some chatter about why didn’t people step in but please he’s a 57 year old man who lived his life isolated never listening to anyone this was his sad fate unfortunately not to be harsh but Prince created his own path. I did hear a few on here chatter about how she was close to MJ and Prince and both were dead soon after, as tragic as that is both of those geniuses were victims of their own isolations very similar. But Judith I recall being mad at Prince for his choices his absence after getting close he did this to himself let’s be real. As for talent Judith is off the charts which is why I didn’t and will never consider her a protoge since she is light years more talented and never was in that toxic circle
