So far, what I've been able to find out is that the changes were all made before it was released.

Yep and that was the second time (that I know of) she mentioned that in an interview.

I finally got "thriller 25" dirt cheap recently. Solely for the finished "for all time" (still prefer the demo tbh), but I gotta say, Will I.am does great on "P.Y.T". His rap is abit rubbish LOL but its short and I don't mind it. But the production and use of MJ's creamy demo vocals work really well. Iam shocked LOL.

Akons remix gets a pass too. Its mainly Akon but the update works. Rest of the remixes are crap but credit where credit is due to Akon and inparticular Will Iam. Shame he still holding out on the other tracks he did with MJ...

I've been listening to the Invincible album for the last few days and I am honestly shocked that this album isn't held in higher regards amongst Michael Jackson fans. But what's the general consensus on that? Is it still worth a listen?

My reaction when I first listened to it on release was excitement - although it doesn't feel like a cohesive piece like, say, Welcome 2 America, there's lots on there to enjoy.

A few months ago, I'd never heard of her. I tried to get into George Clinton and felt a little overwhelmed. So I'm not quite there yet in terms of being a full on "funk-head" but I really love the feeling of discovering new (to me) music.

Madonna's usually considered part of 80s holy trinity w/ Prince/MJ. You check out her full albums yet? Her first one's got some funk, Reggie Lucas used to write for Mtume ("Juicy Fruit", classic). Evelyn "Champagne" King most slept-on 80s Queen, though.

and There's nothing to separate with MJ. Seemed like a good guy. Less research than Blood on the Dance Floor 5-trax runtime will show that. His personality/nature made him an easy target for sharks, and I'm no MJ stan.

Just saw your ranking of Prince albums. Love that you have some recent stuff near the top. And that you place Parade (my favourite album by anyone ever) below Newpower Soul (much derided in this community) - it's just beautiful to see different opinions like that.

Very cool. About a year ago I had a conversation with a 22 year old, who I had to work with for a day. She said she knew who Prince was but she didn't know his music. I was a bit shocked, at first I thought this might have been the price Prince paid for taking his music off streaming services and YouTube for such a long time. But then I remembered as a kid, I rarely listened to music from before my time...just the main hits.."Rock Around the Clock" etc. Just time marching on I guess.

I've met people in their mid-30s who give similar responses. It totally is 100% result of him fighting the internet. There's a whole 2 generations or so who have no concept of his music beyond "Purple Rain". I like watching reaction videos to Prince, but literally every other reaction is like, "Hm, I thought he was like a Michael Jackson-type, this isn't like Michael Jackson" and everyone is genuinely shocked they somehow enjoy Prince music as well.

lol, and some of the reaction videos they're like "wow, I'm sorry, he's good, I don't know why I never checked him out... you know as a kid I only knew that Chapelle Show pancakes skit, so I thought he was just... you know... a joke." You gotta laugh to keep from crying at those reactions.

Maybe I'm a tad askew because I loved exploring old music in my teens (still do, still go further back, 40s/50s doo-wop's where it's at), but these kids don't even know "When Doves Cry" which should be his "Rock Around the Clock" equivalent. And they literally only know PR because it got spammed in post-2016 tributes.

Youth today actually do know their fare share of old hits (I got younger siblings, they rock occasional 70s/80s/90s hits, look how that old Kate Bush song exploded from social media).... just not Prince hits. He did that.

Yes your point about "When Doves Cry" not being more well know is on point. Kids just don't trade tapes like we did in our day. I suppose taking ones music off YouTube and Streaming services is the equivalent of taking ones music off radio and MTV back in the 1980s..still feels weird though. Time marches on.

I remember when everything MJ did was an "event". Every appearance, every music video, tie-ins with ET and Disneyworld, etc. It was a great time.

Scream seemed to be the last big "event" before I stopped following him.

I actually don't like the song as much anymore. I thought it was amazing the first few times I heard it, but to me it got old pretty fast. And Janet sounds redundant on it tbh. Her vocals just aren't strong enough and MJ totally overshadowed her, making her presence on the song totally pointless.

This is the song that lost me completely. I had high hopes with Janet, Jimmy & Terry being involved, but it was such a let down. Cool video tho.
