"Black Cat" by Janet Jackson, and Jellybean's opinion on it

Journalist Jon Bream tweeted a video of St. Paul & The Minneapolis Funk All-Stars (including Jellybean Johnson, Elisa Fiorillo, and others) performing Janet Jackson's "Black Cat."

For those that don't know, Janet is credited with writing the song, but Jellybean produced it, including playing guitar on it. Musician Dave Barry did most of the guitar hooks in the song. There are different mixes that include Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme (Video Mix), Vernon Reid from Living Color (Guitar Mix). John McClain (yes, that one) did the slide guitar on the track. Even Lemmy from Motorhead wanted to do a cut with her, but Sony blocked his involvement. (Fucks, can you even imagine that version?!)

Jesse Johnson provided a solo not on the album, but is in the remixes. I also learned Derek Organ from Switch provided live drumming for the remixes.

Anyhoo, Jellybean RT'd Bream's tweet, saying, "The joy of playing a song I was robbed of is always bitter sweet."

He also added, "Co-wrote but didn’t get the credit or the money. This song is my creation and I was robbed. All I get is the pleasure of playing it."

That sucks for Jellybean. He's always been listed as co-producer with Janet on the track, but Janet was sole writer.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

So she didn't write it?

He said he co-wrote it, so it was a joint effort on both parts. People have long said she had this melody and song when she came in one day, but it was Bean who put the rest of it together and produced it with her.

Pretty sure I read someone that Jam and Lewis actually told Janet to hook up with Jellybean as he would be better suited as its a rock track, which he did before "Black Cat"...

..see "Rhythm of change" by Nona Hendryx for example. Though of all things, Barry Gibb's "System of love" sounds like it influenced it. But no way Jellybean woulda heard that obscuro though so Iam reaching....
