I've listened a couple of times. Just so much to listen to, that this album got lost in the shuffle. I may circle back around to it, sooner than later.

I love the cheeckiness in the delivery!

It makes me wanna figure out the bass lines and play along while doin' the dad-dance!

Very cool album, however, i never bought it cuz it's right there on the "ytub" confused

It really is good. I need to circle back to it. I've been on a major Tina Turner run lately.

I definitely copped the CD! CD Anderson bragged on the Grammy stage "We've been trying to be humble, but this is what the industry calls a clean sweep" lol

Anderson Paak(whom I saw live a few years ago) I was so impressed by his showmanship. He reminded me a LOT of Prince(r.i.p.) going from instrument to instrument. I knew he had the IT quality. Now look at him! Joining a band with culture vulture Bruno was a BRILLIANT idea I'm so proud.

BTW; The concert proceeded an induction of Sheila E in the Drummers Hall Of Fame @ the famous Guitar Center presented by Oscar nominate actress Angela Bassett(whom is a close friend of Sheila's)

Blast Off is my favourite track off the album - love the outro on that. I'm sure I read somewhere that they had a more 'socially conscious' track that they took off at the last minute as they didn't feel that it belonged on the album - would be interested to hear that

I have been resistant to Bruno all along, not a hater but just not drqwn to his slickness. So, I came to this album late and in a half assed way: I needed some dance music to download to my underwater MP3 player to do my swimming pool workouts. The album is better than I thought. I even snuck a few listens in when I wans't underwater lol.

Phenomenal record. I think Bruno's vocal ability is not appreciated as it should be, he's considered a light tenor but to me he sounds like an alto, almost like Freddie Mercury, Sting, Axl Rose, Sam Cooke, guys who can belt high notes using chest voice without flipping to falsetto or head voice. In Put On a Smile he belts a D4 using chest voice and then up to freaking F4/G4. I mean holy shit. Not mentioning how GOOD his natural voice texture is (very clean, MJ ish tone). I just admire the effort put in vocally producing this whole record, Bruno's voice is the ideal instrument for this type of throwback 70s music, and the chord progressions throughout songs like Blast Off, Skate and After Last Night are very reminiscent of not an exact band or artist from the past (as opposed to what the critics say) but a very specific vibe and genre-based methodology. Much like Locked Out of Heaven was never Police rip off that copied or interpolated or sampled a specific Police chord progression (not musically nor rhythmically) but rather was inspired by that whole genre, basically adding a new entry to it.

They do admit to being big Earth, Wind and Fire fans.

I don't hear Prince in their sound. Still album of the year.

I'd agree. They have an old soul sound to them, and reinvented it. It brings back everything from The Temptations to The Commodores.

When bands like EW&F, Commodores, etc were making funk and soul music, Prince was making his soft rock/R&B albums like For You and Prince. He was a tad too young to be in that group, and by the time he got his footing, that sound was becoming dated and old fashioned (in lieu of punk, new wave, etc). The closest he got was having a disco-esque sound on those first two records.

There's no doubt these two men love Prince and have taken so much from him and learned and grown from it. But they're students of music in general. And An Evening With... certainly digs their roots deeper and further back.

The album is dope as fuck.
