Tough one, I love both songs very much. I would say Nasty is probably best remembered. If I were forced to pick a favorite then it would be Nasty Girl. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Tough one. I'm gonna go with "Nasty" because it sounded so different to me at the time and it hit like a bomb!

They're two different songs. "Nasty" is arguably the first New Jack Swing song. It's pop, it's R&B, it's funky, syncopated, attitude-y. It's an empowerment anthem for women who are treated less than what they're worth as a human being. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Both songs are top notch and unique, I give my nod to Janet's Nasty, good topic to debate merf

Both great songs but Nasty edges it out. Janet really brought it in the video with just the right amount of sass, fierce dance moves and fun.

"Nasty Girl". I'm still surprised it got as much airplay as it did back in the early 80s. It was in heavy rotation on R&B radio. I dont think Pop formats would touch it. It was considered quite raunchy at the time. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

“Nasty Girl”…this song (and the whole V6 concept) was totally ahead of its time we had never heard a song like this before! This was bold stuff for 1982,lol.This certainly wasn’t the Supremes, lol.Bold, edgy, unapologetic, female sexuality at its best! Musically, the song is one of Prince’s hottest, funkiest grooves too.

I heard it on an old school R&B radio station a couple years ago and they played the entire album version. I guess its considered rather tame compared to what is being played on hip-hop stations and contemporary R&B stations. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Same for me and for the same reason. Vanity 6 all the way. . "Nasty", while it's a great song, blended in with a lot of what was going in in 1986. Andy is a four letter word.

Not the ones in my area. They played it straight through. I had the 45 but when I heard the "7 inches or more" part on the radio, I HAD to get the album. . . . [Edited 1/5/22 10:40am] Andy is a four letter word.

Jeez, I guess that's one way of putting it.
I like Nasty Girl, but I have to opt for Nasty for that Ensoniq Mirage bassline alone. I managed to recreate it on the Korg Minilogue XD... I'm completely obsessed with it. I tend to listen to the instrumental version though, I can take or leave Janet's vocals.

This 100% . . Nasty Girl is so funky! Nasty always annoyed me with that chugging, train sound throughout. . . I think Nasty is taken from Nasty Girl since Janet talks about going to the tiprle threat tour and seeing the Time and her mother covering her eyes or something. . . And obviously Jimmy & Terry played Nasty Girl even though they didn't write it. (Though I think Terry co-wrote IF a Girl Answers)

Just listeneded to that song. Nasty Girl has similar bass-drum triplets, but the beat for Nasty Girl is way more complex than that.
