Seems like it is an ongoing thing now and days and I am sure they will take good care of his catalogue.

Yeah this is where things are going and the main reason is that the legendary artists that sold and have these catalogs are either gone now, or way past their days of getting played on the radio selling tons of albums its just not there anymore, not saying they still dont put out great music or tour, but now even touring is not a stable thing with shows going and some getting cancelled and thats going to be for years to come. Also for a long time in the industry, it did very well selling the music of the older artists, best of's and classic albums, but you also now are at a point where the buying generation is much older they own it all already and the new artists and the ways the industry is now on streaming and singles it doesnt interest that consumer anymore. But also this makes alot of sense too because alot of these artists have tons unreleased, especially BOWIE and Springsteen very similar to Pearl Jam has been putting out tons of concerts, so they are generating alot of $$ by really just putting things out they never have.

Semi-prolific artists like Bowie, Springsteen and Pearl Jam always stand to benefit from these deals. And so they should. On average, the more prolific artists tend to release better material, or at least a larger number of great songs overall, even if the consistency isn't always there. The record company won't cut any artist a great deal if they haven't released much, regardless of how 'great' they're perceived to be. (correct me if I'm wrong). Then there are artists like Prince, Zappa, Miles Davis who almost have too much unreleased stuff. So it's harder to gauge the true value of their enormous catalogue. Especially when there are darth vader voices and mashed potato girl segues interspersed among the jewels concerning Prince. But yeah, given we still don't absolutely know who gets access to what vault recordings, between WB and Sony, it makes sense that the P deal(s) so far didn't reap so much.

Dunno but most of my Bowie CDs are Rykodisc.
