Rest In Peace singer Joe Simon

R&B singer Joe Simon who had the hits “The Chokin’ Kind” and “Drowning In A Sea Of Love” has passed.

I was just playing one of his records last week. Joe is one of my mom's favorite singers. I remember she used to have a poster of him on the wall. I know he gave up secular music to be a minister in the 1980s. He never went back to performing it like Al Green & Little Richard did.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
