R.I.P. Anthony "A.J." Johnson ex-Manchild bassist This is to inform you of the passing of Anthony "A.J." Johnson, bass guitarist and co-founder of the the Seventies funk band Manchild out of Indianapolis,Indiana, the group that launched the career professionally of Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds.
Manchild had two albums: POWER AND LOVE (Billboard #29 R&B, #154 Top 200 Albums Chart), and the R&B Singles charting "Especially For You" (#77).
The group's second album FEEL THE PHUFF was released in 1978. Post Manchild there was a spinoff group called Redd Hott and they had a charting single caled "Big Fat Bottom"(#63 in 1982 BILLBOARD R&B Singles Chart).
