I always had a love hate relationship with Eric Clapton. There were times when i thought he was a really good guitar player and times when i was thinking he sux and haven't develoup since 70s but 2 days ago i stumbled upon this rare concert from 1986 and i was shocked how good was his lead playing amd how awsome and heavy was his tone.no tired blues cliches no mannirism in playing pure fire. Btw you have killer version of Behind The Mask by YMO and Michael Jackson. Check it out https://m.youtube.com/wat...CwZMbi-zPE

I liked his playing in the late 80's/early 90's when he released the "Journeyman" album. He switched to Soldano amps and had his own signature Strats. He had a lot of fire in his playing (and tone) again during that time.

I agree with u.starting with the mid 80s Eric woke up and played inspired guitar devoided of his usual cliches and also his guitar sound was unusualy processed for him anyway.

One time, a reporter asked Clapton how it feels to be the greatest guitarest of all time and he replied, "It feels fantastic, thanks."

I think one of his other replies in an interview was; "I don't know, ask Prince".

He plays clean. My problem with him is he is a bit too misty about the blues. Enjoy the blues but transcend it like the Beatles or Led Zep. Or even Black Sabbath.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!
