Legendary music executive Clarence Avant's wife has been shot dead by robbers in a home invasion in an elite Los Angeles neighborhood. Beverly Hills police were called to the home in neighboring Trousdale Estates around 2.30am on Tuesday night after a 911 caller said someone had been shot and killed, according to TMZ. Avant's wife of 54 years, Jacqueline Avant, was rushed to hospital, where she later died, before police arrived. She was 81 years old. A family source told TMZ that robbers fired shots as they entered the Trousdale Estates home and hit Avant's wife. Avant, 90, was home at the time, but it's unclear whether he has been injured in the attack. The legendary music executive was inducted into the Rock and Hall of Fame in October, with his wife by his side. The couple's daughter, Nicole Avant, is married to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos.

Saw that on twitter earlier. Who would kill an 81 years old woman and over WHAT?! Such tragedy, Jackie has been there from the beginning and helped Clarence ascend to his music totality. My heart goes out to him & their family. Nothing material is worth losing a human life.

As tributes poured in Thursday for slain Los Angeles philant...line Avant,
Beverly Hills police initially described the Wednesday incident at the couple’s home in Trousdale Estates, a lavish community in the foothills of the Santa Monica mountains, as a home invasion.
But Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook later suggested the couple may have been deliberately targeted, rather than the victim of thieves just looking to rip off the rich and famous. “Obviously, someone went into the home, we just don’t know what the purpose was,” Stainbrook told reporters late Wednesday. “A lot of times people think home invasion when it comes to robbing or burglarizing a residence. … I think there are a lot of nuances to the term home invasion.” “I don’t think it’s a random attack, but I can’t speculate on that right now,” he said.

I heard on the radio this morning that a suspect has been arrested. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Arrest Made in the Fatal Shooting of Jacqueline Avant, Wife of Music Legend Clarence AvantRyan Parker
An arrest has been made in connection to the fatal shooting of Jacqueline Avant. The 81-year-old philanthropist and wife of legendary music executive Clarence Avant was killed Wednesday in the couple’s Beverly Hills home.
Beverly Hills police announced Thursday that 29-year-old Aariel Maynor of Los Angeles has been taken into custody. The motive remains unclear, police said. The suspect is on parole and has an “extensive” criminal history, Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark G. Stainbrook said Thursday during a media conference.
Multiple surveillance videos, including city cameras, showed the suspect’s vehicle heading eastbound out of Beverly Hills shortly after Avant was shot around 2:23 a.m. Wednesday morning, authorities said. At 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Los Angeles police Hollywood division responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the 6000 block of Graciosa Drive, where they found a man, Maynor, in the backyard suffering from a gunshot wound to his foot. Following a thorough investigation, it was determined that a burglary occurred at that residence and that Maynor accidentally shot himself in the foot, authorities said.

Man charged in death of Jacqueline Avant, music icon’s wifeBEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Prosecutors filed charges Monday against a 29-year-old man in the fatal shooting of philanthropist Jacqueline Avant, the wife of legendary music executive Clarence Avant, last week at their Beverly Hills home.
Aariel Maynor is also charged with the attempted murder of the Avants' security guard, whom he allegedly shot at during the Dec. 1 robbery but did not wound. Maynor's arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday. It was not immediately clear whether he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf. “Mrs. Avant was a treasured member of our community. Her generosity and goodwill touched so many lives,” District Attorney George Gascón said in a news release.
Maynor is additionally charged with one count of felon with a firearm — an assault long barrel pistol — and two counts of residential burglary with person present. He has previous felony convictions for assault, robbery and grand theft and was on parole at the time of the shooting.
