I’m nervous for Chaka, at least Stephanie always comes prepared for a live show, there’s no middle ground for Chaka on the other hand, it’s a either a mess or a kick ass show.

You know Keith Sweat v Bobby Brown he said "who am I battling? New Edition?"

It might feel like that once Chaka plays the umpteenth Rufus hit against Stephanie's catalogue. eek

Chaka is no Bobby though, her solo run can hold its own.

Keith shouldn't have been so snarky. lol

I remember telling my sister who's a big fan of Bobby, NE and all of em that Bobby should be

able to kick Keith's ass alone with My Perogative and Getaway.

I got Chaka here as she is my favorite female singer of all time behind Gladys Knight but if

it's one singer out there than can give her a run for her money it's Stephanie and Stephanie is

a huge fan of Chaka. She's paid homage to her idol Chaka earlier this year on her FB page.

So Im a little confused. I never watched one of these. Didnt know these were actual concerts. From what I saw of the Gladys vs Patti, they were just playing their songs and reminiscing? Or was that because of the pandemic? I love Stephanie but Chaka trumps anyone based on her catalog alone. But like Hamad said, C.K.'s live performances have always been hit or miss. Stephanie is a more reliable live performer. I wonder what happen bc a few months ago Chaka said she wasnt interested? Im assuming they are being paid so maybe thats what changed her mind.

Stephanie voiced her displeasure at verzuz too in the breakfast club, I’m glad both had a change of heart.

Me too! I think if it is seen as a showcase and not a duel, it is quite positive. They don't want to
"battle".

Every Verzuz featured artist's catalog gets a natural boost after these broadcasts. Chaka Khan has said she has been trying to figure out how to make passive income with the sale of Chaka handfans. I think a Verzuz concert broadcast to homes every where is essentially what the business of televised award shows used to do for record sales and artist awareness.

I thought Keith talked & behaved like a total goon in that verzuz, little did I know, he really WAS a goon in his day (and maybe still is). I’ve never seen Bobby this timid next to someone.

Im trying to figure out why Chaka is singing over her own records while Stephanie is not? Its making Chaka sound sloppy.

Yeah, I hate that my fears were confirmed, I was really hoping I would be wrong. But I’ll say this, kudos to Stephanie, she came prepared, did a soundcheck 3 hours prior and when it was time for her to perform, she sang every note on the scale and give a kick ass show.

Another highlight for me, was the sisterhood comradery. Stephanie is truly a class act, I love she helped Chaka at one point.

Now Chaka lol her performance and attitude were summed up at the end when she “fuck that shit” at the end. She did NOT wanna be there.

Yup, Chaka is my girl but Stephanie sure saved the night. As cringey as some of it was I was FULLY entertained. It was chaotic and it was rock n roll.

I dont care what they paid her, it was not worth what happened last night. I am really concerned about C.K.. She needs more rehab and a new management team.

Agreed, I’m concerned too, however, the only person who can help Chaka IS Chaka at this point. It’s deeper than drugs & hard liquor, whether it’s disillusionment or depression or mixture between the two, either way we all have seen this episode over & over & over again as her fans, the times where she shows enthusiasm are few & far between (last I could think of was the virtual thanksgiving concert she held), but generally she has been lookin mentally & emotionally drained, the music doesn’t move her anymore and the gap between her and the audience couldn’t be wider

People are tickled by the IDGAF attitude, but it’s permeating throughout everything around her. It doesn’t take much to see that she’s battling demons. Who has the guts & patience to address that to her though? And who’s to say that they haven’t tried?

Chaka needs to seek healing.

She didn't look happy singing all those Rufus records consecutively. I certainly thought it would have more to do with the type of shit on her Epiphany best of, for instance. I don't know if she is just sick of all that stuff or what.

Both from what she explicitly admitted or implied, she’s sick of those songs and she still feels resentful toward those guys. Chaka said in her book she would love to perform stuff like “Caught In The Act” & “Egyptian Song”, but according to her neither the promoters nor the audience wanna hear all that.

No. What I said in the chat during the performances is, I'd rather see those songs performed in any condition live in front of a live audience rather than listen to them online streaming. Nobody would dare boo them the way people online boo. People used used to just "talk about people" on talk shows and in print publications.

But here we are folks. The dream we all dream of. Talking about a show we didn't attend.

I couldn't even enjoy the show sitting at the computer because some people had to go to bed early.

No.

No more performances please. I hope & pray that Chaka dedicates all of her energy into getting better. We already have the music a& we can always get back to it, her health should be a priority now onward.
