A Hard Day’s Night (4K UHD+Blu-ray Combo / Blu-Ray+DVD Combo / DVD)
release: January 18, 2022

Meet the Beatles! Just one month after they exploded onto the U.S. scene with their Ed Sullivan Show appearance, John, Paul, George, and Ringo began working on a project that would bring their revolutionary talent to the big screen. This film, in which the bandmates play slapstick versions of themselves, captured the astonishing moment when they officially became the singular, irreverent idols of their generation and changed music forever. Directed with raucous, anything-goes verve by Richard Lester (The Knack . . . and How to Get It) and featuring a slew of iconic pop anthems—including the title track, “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “I Should Have Known Better,” and “If I Fell”—A Hard Day’s Night, which reconceived the movie musical and exerted an incalculable influence on the music video, is one of the most deliriously entertaining movies of all time.

Director-Approved Special Edition Features
New 4K digital restoration, approved by director Richard Lester, with three audio options—a monaural soundtrack as well as stereo and 5.1 surround mixes supervised by sound producer Giles Martin at Abbey Road Studios—presented in uncompressed monaural, uncompressed stereo, and DTS-HD Master Audio on the 4K UHD and Blu-ray

In the 4K UHD edition: One 4K UHD disc of the film presented in Dolby Vision HDR and one Blu-ray with the film and special features

Audio commentary featuring cast and crew (dual-format and 4K UHD only)

In Their Own Voices, a program featuring 1964 interviews with the Beatles with behind-the-scenes footage and photos

“You Can’t Do That”: The Making of “A Hard Day’s Night,” a 1994 documentary by producer Walter Shenson including an outtake performance by the Beatles

Things They Said Today, a 2002 documentary about the film featuring Lester, music producer George Martin, screenwriter Alun Owen, and cinematographer Gilbert Taylor (dual-format and 4K UHD only)

Picturewise, a program about Lester’s early work, featuring a 2014 audio interview with the director (dual-format and 4K UHD only)

The Running Jumping & Standing Still Film (1960), Lester’s Oscar-nominated short (dual-format and 4K UHD only)

Anatomy of a Style, a 2014 program on Lester’s methods (dual-format and 4K UHD only)

Interview from 2014 with Beatles biographer Mark Lewisohn (dual-format and 4K UHD only)

English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing

PLUS: An essay by critic Howard Hampton and excerpts from a 1970 interview with Lester (dual-format and 4K UHD only)

These came from the Steve Hoffman site. The top photos are the original and the bottom are from the new Get Back. Notice that John looks plastic and has less color to his face. In the Billy Preston photo, the windows in the new version has a more blue tint to them. It also looks like they cropped the picture to fit widescreen TVs.

At least we would be aware we are watching footage from 50 years ago. On the contrary, I don't know if I can watch hours on end of globby wax beings. confused

How ironic that in 2021 the two biggest selling artists are probably going to The Beatles and ABBA worldwide. Again showing how much todays artists no matter HOW big don't sell, and YES I know its all streaming etc.... BUT you just can't compare physical sales to streams, doesnt work, no comparison. Has nothing to do with talent, though in a lot of cases there are WAY too many people putting out music just to bump there Instagram views and likes, but in the long run this is why longevity is going to vanish because there is no physical product, people stream and forget it the next day.

But this Get Back film is being shown on Disney+, a streaming service for movies & TV shows. This year Warner Brothers had all of their new movies at theaters & HBO Max at the same time. A lot watch pirated movies on the internet. The general audience isn't really interested in own physical product other than video games. In Wal-Mart & Best Buy the movie & music section gets smaller & smaller. At best they rent a movie from the Redbox in front of stores. Some buy street CDs & DVDs which are burned bootlegs sold for a lower price than the official versions.

yeah, the Beatles have an amazing type of longevity that most of these new, young,"hot" acts will never be able to duplicate. It's really incredible.

The movie is going to generate alot of traffic on all of their stuff, which will be streaming music movies or this new Let It Be is almost 100% selling PHYSICAL Beatle collectors are not streaming this and not buying some version of this, that is the difference with say Drake or Justin Beiber and the Beatles. Beatle fans may stream it while they are out and about, BUT they are buying it too, Drake and beiber and a host of others, they are strictly based in streaming there is no comparison. And when this Get Back comes out I am sure in a special edition blue ray dvd box with more added features next year Beatle Fans will be all over it.

I mean whether people like them or not, though I really cant believe someone can say they dont like them, but regardless, it can never be denied that would they acheive through generations for a band that was together or in their height of fame from 64-70 still can outsell others a half a century later, and it doesnt seem like its going to stop.

I don't think The Beatles are a big thing in most African countries outside of South Africa. I've heard James Brown was/is in some countries there and had some influence on certain music styles. I've also heard that country music is popular in some places. It also depends on what people grew up with. People in general are more likely to be into artists of their own race over another. Many listeners are only into certain genres of music, no matter what the ethnicity of the artists are. Like Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Mathis, Charley Pride, & Tracy Chapmnan are more popular with white audiences than black and vice versa for Teena Marie.

Perhaps but it seems that artists and bands from almost every genre have covered the Beatles songs. There is even a “Motown does the Beatles” album. The song “Yesterday” is the most covered song EVER.They clearly appeal to a very wide audience and not just their pop/rock base.

it depends to on the artist like you say, the Beatles are covered by a slew of people from every genre of music. Also there are bands that are huge in South American countries like Queen and the band a-ha who are from Norway have a giant following in South America. The band Air Supply hasn't had a new song on the radio in America since 1987 but they are royalty in Japan. But again like mentioned I feel the Beatles are a different animal all together with their appeal.

I don't much care about the grain removal. It looks fantastic.

To me, removing the grain from movies/TV shot on film to make it look like a modern digital shot movie is the same as remastering an old album but brickwalling it. It's not the same quality and it tends to make the people look fake. The film grain wasn't removed from the Aretha Franklin Amazing Grace film.

OMG I just watched Amazing Grace last Sunday. heart What a great FILM!

I liked the “Zappa” documentary, I wasn’t aware he composed for orchestra prior to watching the film. Those people genuinely loved him despite having a love/hate working relationship with him.

I still need to give his music a chance, can’t even call myself a casual listener at the least. But his take-no-bullshit attitude has always fascinated me, especially in how he single-handedly defied that witch hunt brigade of the 80s.

She's the easiest, go-to scapegoat.

Beatles/Apple keep the legend alive for future gens, and after future gens get successfully converted they log on the internet and gear up the Yoko bashing like all Beatle fan generations before them.

viewed part 1, and it's wonderful to see the inner workings but also how peter Jackson has taken such time with the footage and the audio and also in the beginning to set it up. I would not recommend this documentary to anyone that is not a die hard fan that knows all the history and not just the HITS and the bullet points of their career, mainly because there is just a lot of figuring things out especially in this first episode. Also this documentary is not going to be a six hour thing, Jackson commented it's eight plus, and just part one alone is two hours forty minutes. All in all again not recommending this to a casual fan at all, you will not really appreciate it at all. But Jackson has done wonders of adding in a lot of audio where many times they didn't have film footage to accompany it, this is also explained before the film starts.
