The Top James Bond Themes

Variety

Somehow people like Billie Elish rank above Adele, Tina Turner, and Shirley Bassey. She's not the top spot, though.

Most themes have a certain feel to them, but not all. So, what Prince song do you think would've made a great James Bond theme?

The only Bond theme I really liked was Goldeneye. It's also my favourite Bond movie and stars my favourite Bond actor.

I haven't heard Billie Eilish or Sam Smith's Bond songs but I reckon it's probably safe to assume I wouldn't like them, based off the fact that I dislike both artists intensely.

For my money, a Bond song has to be a big, brassy number. I don't think anything from Prince's catalog really fits. Old Friends For Sale, maybe? I don't know.

The best Bond song there never was is actually from a video game called Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Just listen to this and tell me this wouldn't be a kickass Bond song;

I don't care for Eilish, but Sam Smith's song was very Bond-esque. Adele's "Skyfall" was a favorite for me. I don't care what folks say, but I loved "A View To A Kill" by Duran Duran.

As much as I love Madonna, "Die Another Day" is horrible as a Bond song. As a Madonna song, sure.

"Goldeneye" is so dramatic and great.

I think maybe with a little retooling, "Live 4 Love" would be a great bond title and theme song. Same for "The Future" or "Electric Chair."

There are some Bond songs I like as songs but I don't think really fit with the movies. Like the Chris Cornell song. It's a decent number but doesn't feel very "James Bond" to me. I don't like Adele in general but Skyfall was a pretty damn good theme.

Good shout for Live 4 Love. I hadn't thought of that one. And it actually sounds like the kind of name a Bond movie would have too.

Another thing about Goldeneye. Did you know that Nicole Scherzinger did a cover of Goldeneye for a videogame? It's actually pretty good too believe it or not.

Speaking of James Bond songs that never were. Alice Cooper recorded a Bond song for Man with the golden gun. Unfortunately it wasn't used and they went with the unmemorable Lulu song. One of the few Bond songs that I don't care for. Yep. AVTOAK is great. Also A-Ha's living daylights. But really, most of them are great.

My favorite Bond songs are from the Roger Moore era Live and Let Die, Nobody Does It Better, For Your Eyes Only and A View to a Kill. It's tough to think of a Prince song that would work for Bond but I'm thinking maybe There Is Lonely.

Would "Thieves in the temple" be a good James bond theme song?
My favorite bond theme is "Skyfall " by Adele

Narada and Gladys on "License to kill" is my fav

Narada abolutely got it! Big, brassy, melodramatic (and crib a great past Bond song LOL).

But there are loads of great ones though.

Shenna Easton and Gladys Knight for me. Tina Tuurner but only the remix version which samples the Gap Band "Outstanding".

For me many great ones, my two favorites are a-ha and Duran Duran, and the funny thing is that Duran Duran were in the middle of huge fights in the band especially Nick and Andy. Nick is quoted as saying that ending where Andy kills Nick, that was something that easily could have happened for real they just never were able to get along. As for a-ha as their popularity in America was sliding it was going through the roof everywhere else. But a-ha despised John Barry, who insisted on adding a slight musical twist in their song so HE could get a writing credit. At the time of the release of the Film in America, a-ha were on a huge japanese tour and would not cancel any dates to go to the America Premiere, so the label pulled the promotion on the single release and went with a second single by the Pretenders in America. Which is why you go to any a-ha show overseas, Daylights is almost bigger than Take On Me and Sun always shines on TV, but in America its an unheard Bond theme further showing the power of labels and how they will derail their own product.

I just heard that one today on a similar "countdown" today.

"Music" was great fun, but not a Bond theme lol

A lot of the more recent ones have been forgettable and some over the years past also were hit and miss. The Billie Eilish I have heard from Bond Movie addicts, they didnt like it all. I was shocked because the rumor was Dua Lipa was spoken to about either a theme or a role in the film but I am guessing her schedule and being all over killed that.

JoeTyler

1. Goldfinger

2. Live and Let Die

then

3. Nobody Does It Better

4. GoldenEye

5. A View to a Kill

6. Thunderball

7. Diamonds are Forever

8. Skyfall

9. You Only Live Twice

10. We Have All the Time in the World

then you can include the rest, random order; some people will prefer "Writing's on the Wall" over "For Your Eyes Only" or "From Russia With Love"; to each his own.

I know there was a movie, I just don't remember the song. I mean the even clunkier title Thunderdome, I remember that one well.

Mad Max (III) Beyond thunderdome. The song is called "We don't need another hero". Another great song sung by Tina Turner.

Yeah I know it. I feel bad that she has to throw in "Thunderdome," but she sells it.

Goldeneye is the best. Written by Bono and The Edge. And I'm about as far away from a U2 fan as you can get. But it's a great song that perfectly suits the movie. Nicole Scherzinger did a version for the Goldeneye game on the Wii which is surprisingly good but the Tina Turner version is the best.

It reminds me of those poor singers in the Pepto-Bismol commercials who get to sing, with feeling, "Diarrhea!" That's talent.

Well, it sounded nothing like U2. Weird the way they put nothing of themselves in it.

But don't forget how farkin' dramatic 80s music was (with stuff like "Total Eclipse of the Heart," etc), so her grunting "all we need is life beyond...the thundahDOME" felt right at home. At the time.

I also sorta like how it led into the bridge, too.

I appreciate the new kids like Adele with Skyfall, but my heart is with some of the oldies like Tina's Goldeneye, Gladys Knight's License to Kill, Sheena Eastson's For Yor Eyes Only, and of course Dame Shirley Basey!
