2000-2021 Music
So I'm Old School, I love the music from the 70s and 80s hands down. I also love music from the 50s into the 60s. Early 90s was fun etc etc Jazz 100% house, lounge some 50s country classical etc. I'm always interested in new music from various genre and if I hear something in a movie/tv show hanging with someone from a lover to a niece or while out and about I'll catch it on an app to check out later. A lot of times, the songs I never thought I would listen to. It's hard to hear music like I used to. I'm not one of those that bitches that there is no good music now. We just have to wade through more. . So on some down time, while on my computer I brought up music by year and inserted it in a playlist to list. There is some good stuff over the years. I've done this for the 50s 70s and 80s already. But that was effortless. . Look/Listen this list over and what would you insert that might flow with a song I'll post 2000-2010 then 2011-2021 ...and the music links later

what is a song from 2000-20005 or 2006-2010 that you feel represents the sound of the period but has a classic or timeless vibe to it?

Yeah, I would also say a lot of the Neptunes stuff was great in that sense. But furthermore there wasn't much for me in that '00 era unfortunately, it was likely the hardest decade ever for me when it comes to liking 'new music'. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Yeah, I noticed that about myself as well. Most of the stuff I found I like is not so popular. the genre isn't prominant etc Jazz Lounge/House remixes I'm finding were my biggest consumption outside earlier times additions.
what are your usual genre preferences?

Yeah those were some definative sounds. Madonna's Ray of Light & Confessions music was stellar.

70's: soul/funk/fusion jazz/classic rock/yacht rock 80's: funk/new wave/boogie/electrofunk/acid house 90's: acid jazz/house/techno/triphop/drum&bass/
That about sums it up for me. In the 90's I was soaked up by 'underground' electronic dance music and became a 'snob' for Top 40 pop music (didn't follow and didn't like anymore). When I got my fist kid in 1999, I stopped visiting electronic dance music parties (it was hard combining taking XTC with getting up early the next day, LOL!) and lost connection with pop music even more. What I heard on the radio I didn't like much, except for the Neptunes stuff and some other random hits. But mostly I was really bored by pop music and electronic dance music in the 00's. It all sounded like 'bad rehash' to me. The 10's weren't much better, although I started listening to Top 40 radio more thanks to a new job where the radio was always on. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

That's cool. Almost sounds like me lol I just never took XtSee
The early -mid 90s was really good musically. Something strange happened after that. Certain artists from the 80s and early 90s continued doing great.
And listening to more music from the 2015-2021 period I hearing some good stuff. Even though a lot of it seems to be harkening from the 70s and 80s lol but that's ok

Yeah, I agree, music was doing fine in the 90's, especially underground electronic dance music and some of the grunge/ alt rock bands. The 'fall' IMO started when trance became popular. And in pop music probably the rise of commercial, formulaic hiphop and r&b. By the end of the 90's I couldn't stand these genres anymore. Only Neo-Soul gave me some hope but its popularity seemed to die off pretty quick.
I also agree that a lot of the stuff that I like in the 2015-2021 era harks back to the 70's and 80's, which is probably why I like this stuff a lot, LOL! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Do you think a lot of Neo-Soul sounds alike?

Today, I think I prefer most music that isn't 'popular' it lends to the old school underground vibe
This is one of my 2021 favorites

I'll follow this thread closely, since I stopped listening to new music in 2012 or 2013. Things became too dull, sonically and lyrically. It even pales next to 2006-2011, and that's saying something.
Time to give the 2010s a final chance.
