Vin very eloquently explained why you should always pick Michael. "We're not hitchhiking anymore!....we're riding!!"

Vin was smart to sidestep that one. MJ would have been the safe choice but maybe not the "cool" one. On the other hand if you say Prince some people raise an eyebrow and that might not be good for business. If he had to choose it seems he would have gone with MJ. It also seems he hadn't previously given it too much thought (having to choose one or the other) so he was thinking out loud to weigh the question. In my book Prince is more of an acquired taste than MJ is so naturally more people would prefer MJ. Some of Prince's music is more nuanced and his catalog is certainly more varied so while on one level they can be compared as pop artists, the deeper you get into the work you find there's a lot more to love or hate with Prince. I know I'm preaching to the choir here. [Edited 10/21/21 14:13pm]

those who say MJ is better? Why is that?? I am a fan of both but prefer prince and have several reasons Prince was more prolific, you can literally listen to MJ's official adult catalog in less than a day Prince wrote a lot of his songs, produced them, and even wrote many hits for others.MJ did write a lot of his greatest songs but had rod Templeton and teddy Riley to help him.Lets not forget quincy Jones Prince was music. He was always touring and writing until he passed. He tried almost every genre of music from pop, rock, reggae,r&b,rap, blues, and even a little country if you count "the 1 u wanna c". Also,MJ lip synced his performances and tours from 92- 2009 Is there atleast one video of MJ playing a instrument?? MJ was a better dancer though

The great thing is…we don’t have to “choose” between one or the other.I can enjoy the ‘Off The Wall’ album AND I can put on the ‘1999’ album and enjoy it,too. No reason to pit artists against each other and no reason to compare them.Simply enjoy all the great artists!

Dutch writer Joost Zwagerman once said: Michael Jackson is for kids, Madonna is for teenagers, but only grown ups can follow Prince. If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

I guess you've never seen the Yo Little Brother music video by Nolan Thomas You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

That quote is misleading. Michael appeals to GROWNUPS, as well as teenagers and kids. He has ALWAYS been MULTI-GENERATIONAL. I actually laugh at those who think Michael is just for kids. Do these people even know how many GROWN ASS fans LOVE him and his music. I know because I am one of those people, have friends who are fans and am associated with grown ups who are fans. I am around those people-in person and on social media.Michaels fans are NOT shy when it comes to expressing how they feel about this man, his music, his appeal, etc. ☺️ I do agree that Prince’s music is mostly followed by adults. It’s always been that way. His music doesn’t AUTOMATICALLY appeal to kids and teenagers, because that wasn’t his audience. He has always appealed to adults more. My only reason for commenting in this thread is to clear up the MISCONCEPTION from some in the media and public that Michael’s music is only for kids. Not true.😎 [Edited 10/26/21 22:16pm] [Edited 10/26/21 22:18pm] [Edited 10/26/21 22:19pm]

I hear ya.I just think that the "comparison game" is silly.I'm just happy that so many great artists and bands existed during my lifetime,ya know? I'm gonna enjoy all of their music instead of pitting them against each other.

They are two DIFFERNT artists and the comparison is null and void. That doesn’t take away from preferring one over the other or enjoying BOTH artists. It basically boils down to PERSONAL preference and that’s the bottomline.

There are a lot of grown ass fans who love Michael Jackson BECAUSE they were kids when Thriller came out.

HOWEVER, there are a LOT of grown ass people who were GROWN when Thriller came out who STILL love him. I fit into that group, and so does everyone that I know and am associated with. We were all grown when Thriller came out and our fandom has not diminished. In fact, it had only gotten stronger.😎 [Edited 11/2/21 22:57pm]

2freaky4church1 said: Prince didn't write for kids. Exactly. Who said he did? Michael wrote music for EVERY age, race, ethnic group, etc., not just kids. I became a fan of Michael as an ADULT, not as a kid. Prince never really appealed to kids for many reasons, and that’s fine. It doesn’t make him better or worse than MJ. They are two DIFFERENT artists who appealed to THEIR fan base. The bottomline is that Michael appealed to a more DIVERSE fan base and that hasn’t changed since Michael and Prince are no longer here.
