The Fugees' first show in 15 years begs the question: Can you be disappointed by a miracle?

The Fugees' first show in...a miracle?

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 22: Pras, Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean of The Fugees perform at Global...

Even while we all basked in the beauty of The Fugees' history, remnants of the ugly made brief appearances. Since the years of Ms. Hill's hiatus, a major part of her reputation is never showing up on time for her live shows. Although she used her verse on Nas's "Nobody" this year to explain that her "saving souls" should make her lateness irrelevant, fans waited from 7:30 PM until 10:30 PM for the group to appear on stage — something that many will, rightly or wrongly, blame her for. (It's also worth noting that many other artists are habitually late, but don't get the same label as Ms. Hill.)

Regardless of who's to blame, a three-hour wait for what amounted to a 35-minute show left a number of attendees in a state of bittersweet confusion. On one hand, 35 minutes of The Fugees performing at a free concert after 15 years of no performances is exhilarating. On the other hand, a 35-minute performance that Ms. Hill admitted was essentially the group working out the kinks for their upcoming tour — "we're still cooking," she said — feels like we were cheated out of a historic show which properly commemorated the 15-year wait.

Well it would be ironic in Covid times when shows go up and get cancelled that the Fugees would actually try this now, maybe because they know Lauryn can use the covid excuse to cancel if need be.

Ms Hill won’t show up on time, because she’s “busy saving souls”.

I just love it when someone's disrespect and rudeness to their fans is not only defended but made to be a sign of their holiness barf

Who’s defending? I was being sarcastic. The quoted line is from her verse in Nas’ new song.

I’ve actually been one of the many who was at the receiving end of her disrespect years ago when I didn’t know better, so nobody would disagree with you there, especially in 2021.

The Fugees Postpone Reunion Tour Until 2022
by Justin Ivey • Oct 29, 2021 • All Hip Hop

The Fugees reunion tour won’t kick off in November as planned.

Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras have postponed their 25th anniversary tour until 2022. The trio explained the delay in an Instagram post on Friday.

“Dates for our upcoming Fugees 25th Anniversary Tour are moving to early 2022 to ensure the best chance that all cities on the tour are fully open so we can perform for as many fans as possible,” the group announced via social media.

The postponement may be disappointing for fans, but The Fugees intend to expand the reach of their tour. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras will perform in more cities as part of the rescheduled slate of shows.

“With so much excitement around the reunion tour, we are also happy to announce that we will be adding more cities and dates!” they declared. “Full details coming soon along with some SPECIAL announcements!”

The Fugees 25th anniversary tour was supposed to begin in Chicago on November 2. The three artists were going to spend November touring the United States, performing in cities such as Los Angeles, Miami and Washington, D.C.

Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras were also scheduled to perform overseas in December. The Fugees had shows booked in Paris, London, Nigeria and Ghana.

The Fugees officially reunited in September for a special pop-up show in New York City. The event and upcoming tour are a celebration of the triumvirate’s classic album The Score, which was released in 1996.
