What was the LAST casssingle, 45 single, or CD single you bought?

This is harder to remember because you probably were not planning on it being your last time buying that format. hmmm

Or maybe you just bought one on the weekend for Record Store Day! biggrin

I think the last 45 single my family had at the house was actually 1989's "Batdance" by PRINCE.

Cassingle, the last one I bought brand new from the store was The Lady of Rage's "Afro Puffs" in 1994 I believe. It's got the mix using "Superman Lover" sample by Johnny Guitar Watson.

CD singles lasted a lot longer but I found they were less likely to contain an alternate remix I really needed. That is probably the key to why I bought my last one. I can't remember the last one I bought new from a store, but I recently FINALLY picked up the Janet "Together Again (DJ Premier 100 In A 50 Remix)" which is the version she performed on the American Music Awards.

I've never bought a cassette single, but have been given a few.

45: MC Hammer - Pumps And A Bump (as a new release single. I've bought 45s since then, either used or as "new old stock". I bought 7 or 8 in 2020.)

CD: I think it was the maxi single for What's Going On. It was credited as All Star Tribute, which had a bunch of acts on it like Bono, Nelly, Mary J. Blige, Gwen Stefani, Destiny's Child, *Nsync, etc.

12" single: Hope Collective - Give And Let Live (as a new release)

I am surprised at that Hammer being on 45. Some of that stuff seems to have been produced for jukeboxes. I think the most recent 45 I have (without it being restarted "niche" vinyl) is... "I Try To Think About Elvis".

The last NEW 45 I bought was probably a Jorun Bombay edit mr.green just last year.

The last time I bought a 45, it was used... "Indiana Wants Me" by R. Dean Taylor. I found a bunch of used DJ disco 7"s earlier this year.

The last 7" was "Nothing Compares 2 U" purple vinyl by the estate. Before that, possible Pearl Jam's white vinyl "The Fixer," found at Target. Bought it solely because it was white vinyl 7".

Last CD single - God. I've no idea. Probably a Madonna one. "Music" or "What It Feels Like For A Girl."

Last cassingle was probably in the mid 90s, something like "Wind Beneath My Wings" or "Unforgettable." Although those were earlier 90s. But it would've been the last new one.

There was a local mom & pop record store that sold 45s until around 2000 when it went out of business. They had new song 45 releases (like the MC Hammer one. I also bought Sheryl Crow All I Wanna Do from there), but most of the 45s were reissues of oldies (1940s-1980s) like the "back to back hits" series, Collectables & Motown Yesteryear. The store only sold new records & CDs, not used or out of print.

I actually have bought newer 7"s since Batdance. Courtney Love and David Bowie put out new singles that way in the 2010's.

CD Single, no. But I just remember the last cassette single I purchased, Phyllis Hyman's "I'm Truly Yours" back in 1996. I don't know what happened to it. It had a remix of "It's Not About You, It's About Me" which has never appeared on CD or digitally. It's really scarce now.

I can't find the version of "Afro Puffs" on my cassingle either, and I tracked down the 12" with several mixes. neutral

Made me think, the 45 before that was the white vinyl to "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" with the original intro.

I only listed new stuff. I may have gotten something at a yard sale here or there. Probably more toward a CD single, tho.

Last 7" - I got an Angel Olsen 7" with her 2019 album, but the last actual new SINGLE that wasn't some bonus with a bundle or second hand... it'd be a some local band, can't remember which one though.

Last CD single: Probably something back in 2006 or 2007, like a single by the Horrors or someone? Some landfill indie band anyway.

Last Cassingle: uh... the 90s.... like, Gomez or Blur or someone like that? probably around 1998.

Maybe we shouldn't be so surprised we didn't buy CD *singles* after Napster. neutral

I think there was a remix that I could not get a nice clear download of and I really wanted to "own" as a fan - starTLC "Unpretty (Don't Look Any Further Remix)"star because of course I already had FanMail, but it wasn't on there.
