i love tori amos! she was worrying me for a few years, but it was great to hear Scarlet's Walk. I have heard her perform Purple Rain live. It is a realy good version. She always manages to make her covers her own. There's usually only a remnant of the original lying around. Have you heard her cover of "wrapped around your finger". It's so good!

One of my favorite artists. Her best are Little Earthquakes, Boys For Pele and To Venus and Back.
I've been a fan since '94 and have seen her 3 times in concert. I love her playing, her voice and her lyrics. And, she's one of the nicest people I've ever met.

Whose song is that "wrapped.." is a Police song. She has performed this amazing, soft, emotional version (a la Amos) live before and it just makes you weep! So brilliant.

She performed Purple Rain the first time I saw her live, so that was a very nice personal touch. After the show, my friends and I waited for her. She came out and was so gracious and warm to everyone. Didn't act like a star at all. I thanked her for playing 'Tear In Your Hand' cuz that was my favorite at the time. She could tell I was very moved by the performance. And she was like 'awww, you're welcome!' and reached her arms out to hug me. So I took her in my arms and kissed her on the face. She tasted like buttered popcorn and was very generous and genuine with her feelings. I love her. (L)

Tori Amos is an artist that swept me offa my feet with her first two albums, but since her third I have been slowly losing interest.

What do you think of Pele?

I've saw her for the 28th time two nights ago! What a performer. I have to agree, she was worrying me too before her amazing comeback album Scarlet's Walk. Tori played Purple Rain at the first of the 28 shows I've seen her do. I still have only heard it live once but I'll never forget it. Now maybe in the future I'll get to dance onstage with her like I did with Prince! (Only in my dreams...)
If Prince is the King of Funk, Tori is the Goddess of the Keyboards. (Renato being the God) ~Charles

Good excercise in free style composing and therefor not the firm feel that her two previous albums had. I did not have the patience for her most obscure lyrics and the b-sides kind of sucked and hardly ever make any of my compilations. Now, "Do It Again", the b-side of Spark, now that is a great song. That computer beat. I think someone should give that lady a Lynn computer and see what she comes up with.

I'm a big Tori fan, but what's funny is that Pele is my least favorite album next to Strange Little Girls, which sucked shit. Every hard-core Tori fan says Pele is the best, but I just can't get into it like that. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

which blue skies are you talking about? There is the original version and tthen the BT remix which is f'n phenomenal. I like both, but prefer the remix (and that is really rare for me as far as tori is concerned).

Wow! Pele and Scarlet's Walk are my two favorites. She always has sincerity in her work (even when it's a cover) but i think Pele and Scarlet hold the most.

I'm more into Under The Pink, Choirgirl Hotel, To Venus And Back. And I've actually grown really fond of Scarlet's Walk, though when I first heard it I wasn't thrilled. Most of her b-sides are as good, if not better than most of the songs on here albums [which by the by are fcking amazing most of the time]. Here are some of her b-sides and non album tracks. I've made me a 3cd set of them. DISC 1: Merman Never Seen Blue Upside Down Butterfly Beulah Land Sugar Black Swan Honey Frog On My Toe Home On The Range Mary Samurai Losing My Religion DISC 2: Alamo Here In My Head Bachelorette Cooling London Girls Only Women Bleed Take To The Sky Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Flying Dutchman This Old Man The Happy Workers Famous Blue Raincoat Do It Again DISC 3: Carnival A Case Of You Sister Janet After All Siren Smells Like Teen Spirit Thoughts Strange Fruit Angie Daisy Dead Petals Muhammed My Friend Thank You The Sandwich Song Her covers of "Famous Blue Raincoat" and "Thank You" are beyond description. I could babble about them all day. Songs like "Never Seen Blue", "Buelah Land" and "Sister Janet" could have easily been on any of her albums. "Cooling" and "Sugar" and oh fuck it, I'll just rave for another 600 words if I go on like this. Suffice to say that I object heavily to claims that her b-sides are not good enough. Shame!!! and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I've been listening to those cdr's I mentioned in my above
post all afternoon yesterday. The "Choirgirl" bees made me pull out that album again and it has grabbed me once more. To me, that is a perfect album. Even better than P's Sign. Ok, artistically it might not be on the same level as Sign but it's the most wonderful, deep dark depressing haunting and beautifully redeeming album I know. It's soundscape is otherworldly. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I need to give this album another chance. Most people seem to love it. This is where she lost me though. I had a lot of trouble with my favorites artists' output in 1998 - The Pumpkins, Liz Phair, PJ Harvey, Tricky, and Tori is the last one on that list that I've yet to 'get'.
