Standing in the Shadows of Motown Has anyone seen this documentary?
I had no idea that one band (the Funk brothers) was behind all of those Motown hits. The live performances were pretty good too (Ben Harper was great). The movie really shows how they came of with some Motown classics and how much Jazz influenced the Motown sound. A must see for music fans.

The dvd has all kinds of extra footage and interviews.
Know the history or we're doomed to repeat it. Berry Gordy is a cold-hearted prick.

I loooved that movie. Looking forward to picking up the DVD. It was so cool to see the flesh-and-blood creators of the 'Motown sound' that I'm so very fond of. . .and interpreted by those neosoulsters! Fun.

I bought the dvd yesterday. It's great and a must have for anyone who considers themselves a fan of music. It's really sad that they had to wait damn near thirty years before they started to get their props. I don't know what to make of Barry Gordy. Heartless. These guys are great musicians to this day. Everybody should know their story. I wonder if "P" has seen it and what he thinks of it.

So I'm from Detroit and I was talking to a friend of the Gordy family. She said that when she was a kid they went to Barry's house in the Hollywood Hills. Red Skelton owned it before him and it has 2 tennis courts, pools and extravagant. Man, this pisses me off! Especially after seeing the band that helped him make that money playing in Hotel lobbies. What goes around comes around, I guess.

Pop music isn't about the creators, it's about the marketers.
If you don't like the current crop of pop artists: Christina, Eminem, et all - blame Motown

Yea and Berry worked hard and does deserve some props. Many have tried and failed. I really an't blame him for wanting to keep the Motown Sound at Motown. Moonlighting is tough to do in any business. ______________________________________________

He does deserve some props because he did work hard. He worked hard using the backs of others as a foot stool; such bullshit. Why did it take over 30 years for these musicians to get some props? Why are some of them struggling to survive when they had more #1 hits then the Beatles, Stones and Elvis combined? Who is living in luxury?
