A six-episode documentary series on the music of Paul McCartney will premiere on Hulu on July 16.

McCartney 3,2,1, which was first announced in December, features McCartney diving deep into his catalog with legendary music producer Rick Rubin.

“Never before have fans had the opportunity to hear Paul McCartney share, in such expansive, celebratory detail, the experience of creating his life’s work — more than 50 years of culture-defining music,” said Craig Erwich, president, Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment. “To be an observer as Paul and Rick Rubin deconstruct how some of the biggest hits in music history came to be is truly enlightening. It is an honor that Paul chose to return to Hulu to share this one-of-a-kind series.”

McCartney himself suggested fans mark their calendars for the series.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I'm finishing up the series right now. It's been so good. I wish they'd delved a tad more into Paul's first few years post-Beatles. I remember him talking about escaping to a farm in Scotland and being a farmer of sorts. He did talk a bit about that, but I sorta wanted a bit more.

But damn, it's so nice hearing these songs. It's not every day we sit and listen to The Beatles, perhaps.

My favorite Beatles song is/was/always will be "Can't Buy Me Love." Not that anything else pales in comparison, but there's something so fun and driving and joyous about "Can't Buy Me Love."

Of course, they didn't touch that song in the series. Damn it.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Hearing never-before-heard things in the mix and the stories behind them with Paul listening like a fan was just awesome.

I could have watched eight more hours of this...so good!

That's always my favorite too, fiddling with the multi-tracks!

That's so awesome. I loved the way Rick and Paul deconstructed While My Guitar Gently Weeps. The bass Paul played is just awesome.

Made me pick up my bass guitar again and practice.

Yesterday on Dutch TV there was a documentary about 'Songs from the Big Chair' by Tears for Fears.
There the producers also were sitting behind the sound board and isolated instruments or singing from different tracks. Then you hear things which you normaly don't. Amazing.

Would love to see/hear that with Prince songs.

You’d probably enjoy the “Classic Albums “ series, where the artists, producers, and musicians deconstruct one of their albums. These are available on DVD, and some streaming services.

Albums include:

“Electric Ladyland” - Jimi Hendrix
“Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”- Elton John
“Rumours”- Fleetwood Mac
“Disraeli Gears”- Cream
“Black Album”- Metallica
“Nevermind”- Nirvana
“Damn the Torpedoes “- Tom Petty
“Graceland “- Paul Simon
“Plastic Ono Band”- John Lennon

And several others
