the background vocals on "See Me" and "Better Love" (especially in the hooks) sounds like angels. the guitars and piano on "Better Love" is pure genius.

Mr. Vandross didnt have to scream and yell and grunt and groan and growl and grind and do all kinds of vocal acrobatics and histrionics...the man simply had the purest and silkiest vocal tone and rhythmically perfect singing delivery and phrasing, ever known to mankind... the greatest male vocalist of ALL time...he's the only male singer that ever made me cry...not from sadness...but just the joy i get from the sheer beauty of his voice and his rhythmic cadences...its like when Christians get "the holy spirit"...the only other singers that invoke that feeling in me, are Chaka Khan, Minnie Riperton & Diana Ross.

along with the great Nat Adderly Jr., Marcus Miller (bass) and Steve Love (guitar) deserve alot of credit for the amazing instrumentation on those classic Luther Vandross albums

Although I hated the direction Clive took him in when he signed with J Records, as far as I'm concerned, male R&B music died the day Luther passed away. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Mr. V!!! These were my favorites:
...
Anyone Who Had A Heart Forever , For Always, For Love My Sensitivity So Amazing Because it's Really Love Wait for Love Make Me A Believer Promise Me The Other Side of The World There's Nothing Better Than Love I Can Make it Better If This World Were Mine (w/Cheryl Lynn) Don't You Know That A House Is Not A Home Searching (w/Change)
...
There's was also another song Luther wrote, but curiously never recorded himself--"What Can A Miracle Do?"--It was recorded by The Brecker Brothers in 1976 , and then by the Main Ingredient in 1980, and Luther gave the song to Dionne Warwick when he produced her album "How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye", in 1983. I love the feel of that song, and always wondered why others kept covering the tune , but he never did his own version (that I know of, anyway)...

This past Weekend, I found His FIRST EVER Album for Cotillion Records in 1976. Simply called "Luther". Front Cover looks like a Heavy Metal Band! But then U turn it around, and it's a Young Mr. Vandross!!!

As I mentioned above,Luther was truly a master at remaking a song and taking it to new heights.I always wanted him to remake the 1980 Boz Scaggs hit āLook What You Done To Meā.That song, which is one of my favorites,is exactly the type of ballad that Luther would have made his own.His remake would have been incredible.
