What's worse, That's What Friends are For or Ebony and Ivory!

Talented people doing dreck, why lord? I'd say Ebony since at least the other tune is decent, from a dreck standpoint. Song is white as shit.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

lol I agree. Ebony & Ivory has always been too syrupy for me. I've always been a sucker for songs about friendship so I always liked "That's What Friends Are For".

I happen to like both, but prefer That's what friends are for.... oddly enough I listened to that one just some days ago... the first time in ages.

If you like friendship songs, check out this one, by the singer of Europe and the (former) guitarist, who left some years earlier on not so great terms. The lyrics are a bit gay wink , but I really like the song: https://www.youtube.com/w...6zp1dfYftQ

Ebony and Ivory since Gladys isn't on it. Anything Gladys is on is a gem.

Well I tend to call myself seriously belting out, that's what friends are for, on many occasions. Not so for ebony and ivory.

I never liked "Ebony and Ivory." It's too scripted and schmaltzy.

"Ebony & Ivory" was complete trash in every way imaginable, and for several reasons... "Thats What Friends Are For" was a weak song, but well executed...Gladys Knight, Elton John, Dionne Warwick & Stevie Wonder are 4 of the greatest singers ever, so even with such a basic track, they were still able to shine...no contest IMO...E&I is easily the worst song of the 2

That’s What Friends Are For I actually really enjoy. Always have since I was a little kid, I remember hearing it in the late 80s and early 90s in the movies before the show started, and in the grocery stores. Makes me nostalgic.

But I especially love the live version with Dionne, Stevie, Whitney and Luther. I love Gladys Knight and Erin John, but the live version just knocked it out of the park.

This is actually a remake. It was first released by Rod Stewart in 1982.

Was always hoping this would reissue on CD because of the live version of Chaka's "Everlasting Love", which was deleted from the "Stompin At the Savoy" album.

I don't mind Ebony and Ivory (it is what it is). I think That's what Friends are For better, better arrangement with some nice chords to play on the piano. You have Stevie Wonder on both (Stevie plays the harmonica (beautifully) and sings on TWFAF). and Elton John etc.

I actually remember That's what friends are for from Night Shift, but could not remember at all it was a Rod Stewart version.

Awww, I always loved that song. Nevermind, different strokes for different folks I guess.

Mind you I don't mind "I just called to say I love you" I think there is room in your life for "Silly Love Songs" as Paul McCartney said.

Love the message on ebony and ivory, can handle the syrupyness. Always will be optimistic for a world where color difference is acknowledged where required (medically or for cosmetics) but entirely irrelevant otherwise. Plus I like to sing it when it's on the radio.. Tragic karaoke I know.

It’s interesting that we’re discussing Paul McCartney. For the past few weeks,I have been going through a Paul McCartney and Wings phase….listening to all their music.I’m a huge fan.I just ordered a mint vinyl copy of their 1976 3-LP live album ‘Wings Over America’
