A few Grammy takeaways Just a few thoughts on this show, now I caught highlights and performances could really care less about winners and losers since I rarely listen to any of these artists for the most part. but a few takeaways.
Grammys can you figure out the best new artist criteria, you say it's you never could be on a record prior, now in some circumstances you make exceptions because of what the recording was released on, but Megan Thee Stallion is not new at all, this is not as bad when Lauryn Hill won the award but close.

If I were to watch a Grammy show nowadays,I wouldn’t even know who most of the artists are I stopped watching the Grammys over 10 years ago.

I barely know some of the acts and I tuned in thinking that i would fall asleep half way through. I expected to see an awkward COVID show but was so pleasantly surprised at how good the show was. It was intimate and fresh. I watched the whole thing and was thoroughly entertained. . I hope they produce more of these type of intimate awards shows going forward instead of the glossy over produced ones of the past.

I watched the whole damn thing. All 3:45 of it. But I typically do so.. It wasn't bad. I liked that they highlighted small venues and maybe when all this is over they can do live remotes from all over the country with artists performing from where they started. And they should always make the teacher award a big thing. I know this year was a mess but going forward they should get back into making it a big deal. I agree the posturing from Billie Eilish was eyeroll inducing. How foolish would she had felt if Megan would've walked up to her and said ok I'll take it, thank you. I guess she had the record of the year? It was THAT kind of year. I know there's a bunch of Taylor Swift stans on this board but I just can't with her and the academy. Now she's slated to best Stevie Wonder for best album wins?!? And they didn't give Lana Del Rey her award last year and she truly deserved it. Leave it to me to always get mad at something with these awards and take them too seriously. Deep down it's obviously fun for me. And congrats to Black Puma for the exposure. I was unfamiliar with them.

I see it was the lowest-rated in history....not surprising, with all these bottom-of-the-barrel, so-called 'artists'. Cardi B? Mehan thee Stallion? They make Nicki Minaj sound intelligent.

Every year the ratings for the Grammys seem to get lower and lower. I think the last Grammy show I watched was when they did the tribute to Sly Stone. All of the past artists that used to get me excited about watching the Grammys (and the "AMA"s) are sadly no longer around.

Apparently it was the most streamed show ever, and was broadcast over too many damn platforms to count and was trending on social media for 18 hours. My takeaway? People don't watch broadcast television anymore.

Yeah, it was all woke n me too. But, the most puzzelling aspect was, before the last award, there was a disclaimer stating, and i quote: "The recording academy and cbs condemn and denounce all forms of racism (...), sexism (...), violence (...), anti-semitism and hate (...)..." That makes sense. Many of the shows on the major four networks seem to be targeted to older viewers with decades old programs like The Simpsons, Law & Order/NCIS whatever, The Young & The Restless, Days Of Our Lives, Let's Make A Deal, The Price Is Right, Celebrity Family Fued, America's Funniest Home Videos, etc. The newer singers/rappers/bands are more popular with streaming than with people buying records/CDs/tapes. So of course younger people are going to watch the Grammys as a stream. It's like what's the point of an MTV when you can watch videos anytime you want on Youtube as many times as you want. That's why they show reality shows instead of music videos You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

How about the fact that you cater the show to a demographic that couldn't give two shits about watching a four hour award show it's that simple. There's a reason why artists basically only can pump out singles now, because that's what the listener can handle, look at the the album sales chart and the. Look a the billboard top 200, hmmm Alice Cooper and Willie Nelson have the number one and two selling album on the top 200 they are number 48 and 52, why hmmm maybe their fan base buys music still and doesn't rent it, it's that simple sorry, but I can't compare someone who has streaming singles numbers because technically if you listen to thirty seconds it counts as one stream, that's different than putting down and going to get it, it just is, it may not be how most do it now, but sorry a sale means tons more to a stream especially to an artists bank account. Also no one streamed this show fully let's look at that also, most streamed at a certain point or amount you watch counts as a stream, that's why I look at streaming numbers like steroid use in baseball back in the day, it's jacked up. I appreciate Eilish English tae but agree w/ OP n other posters comments on that moment, tacky. Exactly, what about the other artists? That Lipa girl was looking like when they cut to her n she kept going on, but her grip on that shit (the award) wasn't budging for nothing , Megan was like f it I'll take it at 1 point . The only other part I peeped was the tail end of Swift's lip synced performance, she looked nice n I like that song n a lot of her work (folklore n evermore r my go to chill out albums atm), but as a Prince fan I can't get with no lip syncers . For all time I am with you, you are with me.

We've gone from Queen Latifah, Salt n Pepa, MC Lyte, Monie Love, etc., to THIS??? I hate sounding like some grouchy old timer, but come on.
Today at work I was listening to music from the summer of '82 (Just an Illusion, Show Me Where You're Coming From, I Specialize in Love, Murphy's Law, etc.). That shits on what I hear youngsters listening to now.

I am forever listening to old school jams like that.I just can’t tolerate today’s crappy music.

The decline in 1 year though. Last year it got a 5.4 rating among adults 18 - 49. This year a 2.1. The music wasn’t better last year or the 19 ceremonies before.

They say it got 39 million viewers via streaming. I think most of this is geared to young people.
I glance @ it for 2-3 minutes and move on.

A lot of states were on lockdown during the 2020 Grammy ceremony so I'm sure that helped in the ratings. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Like lastdecember said I'm curious as to how they count the streaming. If they count it by the hour then that's pretty impressive. As someone who the ratings would consider an old fogey I'd kinda hate to see them go. Me at this stage being more curious about pop music than an actual fan it's something I'll always look at or at least pop in on to see what's happening and complain. But if they get rid of it then what? I know it's not important but it at the very least can be entertaining. I know there's a lot of "entertainment" out there but honestly there really wasn't anything else on worth watching, so why get rid of something that is a once a year event?

I guess I don't care too much one way or the other. It took me awhile to register the decline of the Grammy's because it used to be so important and truly meaningful, so I kept giving it chances. I think the last Grammy nite I remember was in 2008 when Amy Winehouse toook so many awards. I was a big fan.

Nice to hear the show wasn't bad. I'm not up in arms over the results like I would have been in years passed but I'm rolling my eyes at some of the winners Beyonce tying Quincy, Taylor winning yet another AotY; unsurprising but still... I ended up missing Silk Sonic's performance but I saw it post-show and if I didn't know any better, would have thought it was an alternate music video so I didn't miss anything. Caught part of what I later found out to be their Little Richard tribute though and that was the extent of my viewing experience.

It was an OK show better than previous it seem like they listened when female artist spoke last year and venue owner was a cool add. Bruno did a good job on Little Richard and and glad Fiona won two awards. Haha th that blond with looks lip synching what a 😲. Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!
