King Curtis/Eric Leeds

There is a new feature story about pioneering saxophonist King Curtis on the Wax Poetics site and it got me thinking about the use of the instrument in Black music, especially in the 1980s. In an interview I read with Eric Leeds he cited King Curtis as an inspiration. Indeed, that comes across most clear on the Madhouse project, where Leeds played the lead instrument, but King Curtis' jazzy-soul influence can be heard on many of Prince's records. https://www.waxpoetics.co...ing-curtis

King Curtis was brought to my attention when I heard the Aretha Live at Fillmore West album. The newest release of Aretha Live at Fillmore West has his whole set (mostly instrumental) and it opened my eyes to the level King Curtis was at.

Thanks for the link!
