every 12 inch is better than the single versions

I didn't say anything about single versions. I said album versions. Anyway some 12" maxi singles have single versions. Some are identical to the album and/or single versions like Michael Jackson's Dirty Diana & Man In The Mirror. Neither has any remixes or longer versions. This was also the case on some rap maxi singles such as some on Def Jam Records. I bought them because they have an instrumental version on side 2. Also partly just because at the time I would collect records by certain performers, no matter what was on it. A single version will be the song by itself, where sometimes on an album it might fade into another song like with some Stevie Wonder albums. An example of this is Speed Demon & Liberian Girl on the Bad album. The single version is also what would be played on the radio and used in the music video, if the album version was longer. Some had the remix in the video. If the single version was a remix, then some people who would buy the album would be upset the version they heard on the radio was not on it. lol I remember the R&B radio station would always play the Teddy Riley remix of Don’t Wanna Fall In Love by Jane Child, rarely the original version. One of the Top 40 pop stations would alternate between the 2 versions, the other never played the New Jack Swing version.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

yes 12 inches are extended versions of the song with often new parts and 12 inches were very popular in the 80s.drums are more in the front cause 12" r meant for the dancefloor smile

Check Cameo Candy 12 inch .it destroys the album version.

Off the top of my head (I know some have been mentioned):

Rufus and Chaka - “Do You Love What You Feel”
Janet Jackson - “Don’t Stand Another Chance”
The Jacksons - “Torture”
The Jacksons - “State of Shock”
Prince - “Space” (basically all of the maxi-single mixes TBH)
Prince - “I Hate U”
George Michael - “Fastlove Pts1&2”
Angela Winbush - “C’est Toi”
Stephanie Mills - “Put Your Body In It”
Basically all of the Quincy-era MJ extended versions, if I’m being honest. Ha.
