Will Prince ever leave Michael Jackson's shadow? Since the begin of his career Prince has always been in MJ's shadow and the only time that he managed to leave MJ's shadow was during the Purple Rain Era but after that era he has mostly always been in Michael Jackson's shadow even in the death he is still in MJ's shadow and it seems that he will probably leave MJ's shadow that is why i am wondering if he will able one day to leave Michael Jackson's shadow | |

pure nonsense and tomfoolery...Prince wasnt/isnt in "Michael Jackson's shadow"... what are you even talking about?...both of them reached the mountaintop at dfferent times and maintained their greatness longer than almost ANY of their other peers and competitors...with all the millions of artists in the world, why cant two black men BOTH be considered the greatest at what they did...especially since Prince and Michael did their thing completely different, and took different routes to get there...you sound like a fool talkin bout some imaginary "shadows" [Edited 1/28/21 13:17pm] |

Kind of impressed how you managed to work in the phrase "Michael Jackson's shadow" 7 times in one short paragraph. I mean, Michael Jackson's shadow is a difficult phrase to work into anything, let alone working Michael Jackson's shadow into one short paragraph 7 times. If I were to try work Michael Jackson's shadow into a small paragraph, I'd have trouble coming up with an excuse to keep saying Michael Jackson's shadow. Speaking of Michael Jackson's shadow, now that we're on the topic of Michael Jackson's shadow, how many other great artists are in Michael Jackson's shadow? Justin Timberlake? He's definitely in Michael Jackson's shadow. Janet Jackson is surely in Michael Jackson's shadow. Is Frank Sinatra in Michael Jackson's shadow too? You know, I bet ol' blue eyes is in Michael Jackson's shadow. In fact, I think everyone was in Michael Jackson's shadow. With the obvious exception of Michael Jackson himself. There is no comparision between Prince and Michael Jackson as they were two completely different artists with very few similarities to one another, other than that they were two male solo artists who were both popular in the 80s. As this is your first post here and this is what you've chosen to write, I highly suspect you're not genuinely looking for serious responses, but any shadows are of your own making and imagining, no one elses. | |

Prince was never in his shadow to begin with. Prince never saw MJ as a competition, since he said that MJ was an entertainer and he was a musician. I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but this whole competition was built up by the press and MJ himself fed into it as well. I'm tired of insecure MJ fans coming on a forum dedicated to PRINCE and stirr the pot. This isn't the first thread here and it's always MJ Fans who start this. | |

On a serious note Prince didn't care enough about his stardom. It's like he gave up after Purple Rain. I think Prince had the ability to, if not overshadow Michael, his shadow could've at least stood head to head with his. Don't get me wrong I think Prince's legacy is doing...pretty good. But a lot of it hitches on fond rememberances of Purple Rain and dare I say it, lip service. I was watching this video once and Prince's name came up and one asked the other if they knew Prince when he died and the person said they were aware of him, and they both agreed that they heard of him but didn't really know anything about him like people were pretending like they were fans from the first album. That's Prince's legacy with the general public in a nutshell. Whereas EVERYONE knows Michael Jackson and his fans have always been a special kind of crazy. Michael cared about nothing BUT stardom and it shows now. Prince has a lot of material to be discovered. Time will tell if a fascination with it overshadows Michael Jackson. But Michael understood something Prince never seemed to get a hold of; publicity is the name of the game. |

OP posts reality, it's really only the stans that get hyper-defensive about any notion of MJ v. Prince comparison. . Joe Six Pack, average dude on the street/net immediately brings up the other when discussing one of the two... YouTube reaction vids with teenage/twenties Prince "first timers" almost always open with some MJ v. Prince preamble... Most will have the commenter proclaim they don't know Prince music and they guess families are raised preferring one or the other blah blah... "Little Red Corvette" on the splits scene first timer literally rewinding that shit, "Whoah, I never saw Mike do that...", "Gee, guess I shouldn't have dismissed Prince, he's great too." . This is how the non-stans perceive the two, in constant comparison/competiton between one another. . FTR, I have always hated this MJ vs Prince shit, because 99% of the time it just gives Prince fans an excuse to tear down Michael. Ironically, the majority of MJ fans don’t do the same on MJ forums. They respect Prince’s talent, even if they are not a fan of his.
Another thing that bothers the hell out of me is “Why the fuck are these two BLACK men compared?” Michael was an entertainer, songwriter, humanitarian, philanthropist, etc. Prince was a multi-talented musician, singer, songwriter, etc. They were both great at what they did. They were DIFFERENT. There will never be another entertainer as popular, successful, influential or well-known worldwide as Michael was. There will never be another musician as prolific as Prince was. There will never be another Michael Jackson EVER. There will never be another Prince EVER. BOTTOMLINE!!
