Jody Wately "Midnight Lounge"

Its been a while since I've really been into a real Cd store so I spent a long time looking through the racks of Media Play (which is kind of a ghost town). I didn't figure I'd find anything new but I kind of did. I say a CD called "Midnight Lounge" by Jody Wately and when I say that they had several copies and that it was on sale, I thought it must be a new release. It was but it was released a month and a half ago. I'm surprised one one brought it up. Anyway, I figured this CD had to the American release of "Saturday Night Experience". A track by that name is even on here but I was wrong. Its the release of another Japanese only disc Wately released with the same title of ML. I was just wondering if anyone has picked up this CD and can they compare it to SNE. Which is better. I' still listening to the disc and while I was blown away in the begining its getting a little but boring. Its a mix of electronic music and jazz lounge. The sticker called it "Chill Out" music. Jody's voice is very good. She sounds a lot like Aaliyah on a lot of the tracks. Just wondering what fans think. Thanks

It's a new album but apparently was released in Japan (and maybe Europe) in late 2001. I'm nearly done listening to it. I can best describe it as loungy jazz music. There are a few good songs on there like "Whenever" and the remix. It could have been better, Maybe I'll give it antoher listen.

saturday night experience ron trent remix)

midnight lounge (reprise)

Midnight Lounge was released in the states last year or this year i believe. With another remix. Both of these cds are still available. Brilliant as well. Sort of a deep house, jazz, drum & bass with jazzy vocals by Miss Watley. A definite must have. These are excellet albums.Just don't expect "Looking for a New Love" or anything remotely close to her older sound. If you liked her "Flower" cd or even the single "When a man loves a Woman"; the sound progresses from there. Very laid back. A "chill out" feel if you will.
Harlepolis you should get these. I know you'd really like them. Jody kicked major arse once again!!

Jody's "Midnight Lounge" is a loungy mix of dance and jazz witha little bit of disco but is a far cry from her dance pop hits. Its definately a new area for her. Nearly the entire album is producded and writing by Rodney Lee (I'm not sure who he is) and herself. There is a cover of Peter Gaberial's "Don't Give Up" and is has a trip hop feel to it. "I Love To Love" has a disco beat and feel and is most likely to be a dance hit if it is released as a single. "Skin Deep" is haunting R&B. My fav tracks are the first two, "Midnight Lounge", a slinky funky track with a touch of electronic, and @Whenever", a care free slinky dance stomper. "The Essence" has an intoxicating beat with Jody singing with passion. Overall very simple and beautiful. The album is worthy looking into but sadly will probably do nothing on the charts.
