Good singer, bad material.

She had such promise starting off, I really like her debut but every album after has just not delivered.

This is well stated. Her voice is solid, there's no denying that. Her material after My Everything is 50/50. I didn't know her first record, but I was obsessed with My Everything. (I edited her boyfriend out of that one song, though.) It was a great record. But her stuff since then, meh.

I fear her getting into that Mariah phase where Mariah started sounding like a pigeon in heat more than a singer.

The thing is, when you hear isolated live vocals, this bitch is sanging. I wish she'd cut that stupid ass Blond Ambition/Seduction era ponytail. Go with a short, sassy look, do a light, fun dance-centric album. Bust out of that young vixen mold they've put her in and get to something else. Even Madonna ditched the boy toy get-up at some point.

I highly recommend her debut. My Everything is the last album of hers I bought and was not impressed but I may have to give it a re-listen after all these years.

It's a shame because she's one of the precious few popular singers now who can actually sing yet she's been dropped almost nothing but cookie cutter paint-by-number pop music. People consider thank u, next her magnum opus since it came on the heels of a string of personal trauma for her but I'm just not feeling it in the music. Also, "7 Rings" is one of the worst songs of the 2010s.

CynicKill

Yeah wasn't she supposed to take up the mantle left by Mariah Carey?

Wait Mariah's still out.

Nevermind......

Good voice but also annoying with it, similar to what Christina Aguilera is was whatever. These vocal acrobats, with weak songs that all have the same productions and arrangements etc... it's simple gets you played etc...but like Mariah in the last two decades, her albums are all the same I can't tell what song is on what.

Truth in this. Mariah stopped singing and kept cooing. To see Mariah live is sort of a karaoke moment. She relies a lot on her background singers, sorta sings a verse, then adlibs thru the rest. Think about Beyonce. That "Single Ladies" song, she barely sang on it. All that "if you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it" was backing vocals. Every time she she performed that live, she barely sang after the 2nd verse and bridge. Aguilera does the same shit.

But let's talk about Aguilera and Carey. They both have VOIWCES, okay? But, they are lip syncing parts. People have lined up older performances that they're using now. ESPECIALLY all of those vocal acrobatics. Anyone who thinks Mariah's voice at 50 is the same as it was at 21 is fooling themselves. Aguilera is 40 years old. Twenty years changes a voice, a lot. They may sing a vast majority live, but a lot of those vocal runs and adlibs, etc., are from old concerts (Mariah's from the early to mid 90s, Aguileras from wherever). Videos all over YouTube about this.

I haven't purchaesd a Mariah album since E=MC2, and I may have won that from the radio station. I forget. I did buy The Emancipation of Mimi, too. And for the record, these goddamn titles of hers. The Emancipation of Mimi, E=MC2, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse. What the everlivingfuck?! Her next album is my sentiment: Caution! haha

I don't want Grande to go down that road w/ the weak songs and same cookie cutter productions and arrangements. Aguilera doesn't even give a shit about her career at this point. WTF is she doing, besides a Mulan remake? I couldn't tell you one song from Bionic (except that one where she copied Madonna shot for shot), Lotus or that other one. Last one I bought from her was Back to Basics and that greatest hits package she had (I think just before or after that).

The last Grande song I really enjoyed was "Bang Bang" with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj.

Yeah I thought she would have come out with better material. Conversely Ella Mai is filling that hole

with good material.

yeah I don't remember many Ariana songs at all, there is nothing going on in her songs to make them interesting, she seems caught in this pop rb toss in a rapper when I need too similar to Mariah. I mean she's got a good voice , but it seems she thinks that's all it takes, well no, you need to separate from the crowd she hasn't learned this yet.
