One of my favorite groups of all time...Angie Sylvers was one of my VERY first celebrity crushes... The Sylvers first 3 albums are rare and underrated R & B classics...by the time they got to Boogie Fever, they had taken production duties away from the legendary Leon Sylvers III and they were making bubblegum radio songs like Boogie Fever and Hotline...then they got great again when Leon came back in the 80's, but by then the game had passed them by...such a talented and beautiful family...overlooked in music history

And when production duties were taken from him while still in the group, Sylvers showed those same haters and came with vengeance as becoming the in-house producer at the then newly emerging record label...

That's an awesome playlist there!!! I've been working on a definitive SOLAR Records type boxset that just about covers a lot of the label's output from back in the day, roughly from Soul Train Records to SOLAR. It includes all hits, b-sides, promo releases, some known album cuts that received equal radio and club play, as well as songs that has often been sampled. It's a task, but it's fun compiling lol Volumes are all over the place, some complete, but others are not due to brainstorming and the overall vibe and flow.

I watched a doc about them. They went thru a lot, and were very talented. They stayed a tight family it seems. Leon need to do a book, or one of them do.

can't believe you're still posting here, soul alive! lol i still lurk from time to time.

i remember years ago when the sylvers came up, i was surprised that you didn't know that they had had hits before 'boogie fever', cause like you, i was little when that song was out, and even i remembered that they had 'wish that i could talk to you' before then. my mother had the 45 single of 'stay away from me'.

i loved, loved, loved the sylvers. like you say, lot of fun childhood memories. biggrin

For awhile there,it looked like Solar Records was becoming the Motown of the 80s.Artists like Shalamar,Lakeside and The Whispers were doing some serious damage on the R&B charts.

I have so many SOLAR 12" singles from the early 80s, lol.

"New Horizons" was always a favorite of mine.
