Guess the top 5 all time Billboard Catalog Albums

Billboard introduced the Catalog Album charts in 1991, which charted how well albums did after their first year and a half of release. In other words, what albums having the best staying power in terms of sales over the years between 1991 and now. Albums on the chart include some released before 1991.

What are your guesses for the 5 albums have had the most weeks at #1 on the catalog chart?

No research please!

Hint: the top 2 have logged more than 54 weeks on top.

Hmm. Let's say:

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Bob Marley - Legend
The Beatles - 1
The Eagles - Greatest Hits

Great guesses. However, only Legend is in the top 5.

So does this include all sales prior to 1991 or just sales from 1991 until now (regardless of when album was first released)? If it's the latter that makes it more difficult. If it's the former I have to imagine Thriller and Eagles Greatest Hits would be in the top 5. And maybe The Bodyguard soundtrack?

It's a bit tricky because it doesn't include sales before 1991 and it is more about which album that is not a new album in it's first year and a half of it's release has topped that chart the most. Moonbean's guesses were really close if not perfect in the top selling albums of all times.

Legend is the top catalog album during the chart period.

A hint for #2 is that it has been the top catalog album for 55 weeks over the past couple of years.

That sounds like 21 or 1989. I'd expect Metallica to be in the top 5. Maybe Nevermind?

I know Journeys Greatest Hits has been a really long charting album - which I don't really get but it's probably in there too.

Hmm.

For the remaining 3, letโ€™s go with:

Queen - Greatest Hits
AC/DC - Back in Black
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours

OK so I did cheat and there's no way you could guess #3 (I doubt you could guess the act if you didn't check) and #4 is kind of a long shot too. I mean it is kind of a random chart, albums that have been released for at least 18 months and have fallen of the top 100 or a holiday album on its second year of release shrug

Hints about the remaining 2.

One is a soundtrack, and the other you will have to pray for the answer.

I imagine people either lost interest or looked it up, but the 5th and to me the most unlikely album is

Creed's My Own Prison.
