Just watched Devil's Pie. Heavy! I felt for him, when he talked about how everything went downhill after his grandmother died, I teared up. He's such a gifted man and I'm happy that he got a second chance in life, the world and music listeners definitely need more of him.
I'll admit, I got somewhat sympathetic toward ?uestlove too and how at one point he admitted feeling dread that he would wake up, and D wouldn't be here. But I just wish he would STFU for once about these definitive statements he always would make about D'Angelo or even other artitsts ("The last pure talent that was so & so, the best artist that did such & such, etc") the man can't say a single statement without hyping. |

Ha! I love it. He does do that a lot, doesn't he? How aggravating. It looks like fun, though, to talk like that:
The last great roller coaster was space mountain.
The only great web browser is google chrome.
The greatest dessert ever made was key lime pie.
The only true dog breed is a beagle.
Murder She Wrote was the greatest dramatic narrative of all time.
Are these 'hot takes'? I feel so smart.

But that’s one of the things that messed D’s head up, the fact that he was so hyped so much and so soon (how can you be a genius after two albums?!) that’s quite a burden When you’re finding your own voice, it overwhelmed him and he started questioning himself, hence the hiatuses. He (Ahmir) has so much insight on a lot of artists which is why I still listen to what he got to say, it’s these self proclaimed definitive statements that need to stop. Everytime he says something like that, he jinxes it |

For the music geeks in the thread, at one point while he’s tinkering with the piano and taking about his grandmom’s church, you could hear him briefly improvise the first opening notes of Donald Byrd’s “Places & Spaces” that made me goof grin. |

I'm sure we'll get a new album before the end of the decade. I'd rather an artist take their time (even if it takes a decade) and deliver a 10/10 album as opposed to just releasing mediocre stuff for the sake of productivity or whatever. A certain kind of mellow. |

I just watched it and the explanation is really as frustrating as his behavior all those years. THANK YHWH for once that Questlove was there to translate it, especially the guilt of the gifts. I can dig that. |

Look here:
https://www.slingbaum.info
However, very elusive, could not find a place on the net to hear that song, at least not on a quick search right now...
Sounds like an interesting EP (if it ever comes out...)

D always looked exhausted after those concerts as if he was competing in a sporting event. If he has 2 go thru that much just 2 get thru a show......maybe this isn't the game 4 him. I feel bad 4 him and he is clearly dealing with some things beyond the obvious. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent. |

I feel bad 4 him and he is clearly dealing with some things beyond the obvious. The retrospective account he gave about that jazz festival concert from the voodoo tour shed light to why got scared of it all, like you said earlier fame isn’t for everyone. He wasn’t the “chosen one/second coming” like those who hyped him to be, he’s just another gifted musician who wanted to make music. But that terrified him, I felt looked like he carried some type of guilt when he talked in that documentary and fear is the bottom of it. I really hope he’s dealing with those demons. |
