Halftime was average at best. Just a lot of glitz and ass shaking. There are no more great iconic bands or artists do this, so it will only get worse. Next year will be Lizzo and Billy Elish. mad

Foo Fighters maybe? I've always thought they'd be a good fit ... their music probably sits well with the average football fan. Whether they'd actually do it though is another matter ...

Sorry DaveT, but the Foo Fighters do nothing for me. I honestly do not believe there are any real icons left. It would be great if Stevie could do it, but I hear he's not well. I don't think we'll see too many more awesome half time performances as the great ones are either dead or getting too old. Just my opinion, I know.

Bon Jovi would be the perfect choice for me. Bonafide legends that have mass appeal, loads of big crowd pleasing songs and, while they may be getting old, they're not too old. I seen them last summer and they were great.

Madonna performed at the Super Bowl before Beyonce. Madonna did it in 2012, Beyonce in 2013. So you could say Madonna started the big pop dance performances. Shakira is actually 43.

Yeah, I don't know where I got 38. My bad. It actually makes the argument for two women bringing it even better. hehe

Seen them a few times myself, fantastic live with a great back catalogue to call on (though I'm not keen on their last few albums). With Jon being so close to the Giants perhaps the next time the Super Bowl is in New York he might do it.

Is Richie back with he band btw? Last time we saw them (think it was Hyde Park) he'd been given the elbow again.

Nah, Richie isn't in the band anymore which is a shame but he's only got himself to blame.

If the Superbowl is ever in New Jersey again, imagine the local reaction to Springsteen, Bon Jovi and The Gaslight Anthem all playing the halftime show. Three generations of New Jersey rock all in one place.

Frantic? At the end, they did Champeta which is a stomping type dance with intricate footwork. It's a big part of Afro-Columbia culture. salsa and mapalé were also shown. To call a culture "frantic" feels really short-sighted, and slightly racist, if not wholly ignorant.

There was no soft porn element, unless one lives in under a rock. These women, especially J-Lo, were wearing (likely) 3-4 pairs of hose. Beyonce admitted to wearing 5 or 6 to keep her stuff in place. They were actually more covered than they were exposed. Their body suits were illusion, not skin baring. I mean, I figured adults would recognize that now. I wonder if people were as upset when Red Hot Chili Peppers were shirtless, or Adam Levine took his shirt off for "Moves like Jagger." Was anyone upset that Madonna had a gold star over her vagina in the shorts under her Roman gladiator skirt that peeked out on occasion? Was that "gratuitous soft porn"? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Folks may want to redefine for yourself what "soft porn" is, then try not to make such gratuitously irresponsible statements about Latino women embracing their culture upbringing.

I mean, the show was in Miami for fuck's sake, the "Latin Capital of America." We're not looking for an Amish chorale.

Aww, that's a shame. Richie is as much the band for me as Jon is, but I had heard that it was down to him falling back in to old ways.

That would be an amazing half time show ... in fact 15 minutes would probably be nowhere near long enough!

It wasn't even as good as the Katy Perry half-time show... Shakira is incredibly likeable, I have no strong opinions on J-Lo, and obviously it was better than last year's rubbish, but this was mostly instantly forgettable.

Some viewed the halftime show as “not family-friendly,” radicalizing other cultures and women of color

A snip:

White supremacy treats anything non-white as offensive, radical, and unnatural. It finds reasons to point fingers and label it unusual. It seeks to maintain its own, at any cost. So to accuse two middle-aged women, who are Latin, as “not family-friendly” because of what they wear or the music they perform are opinions based on racist propaganda. People of color and their culture are so frightening, unnecessarily so, to white America that it’s easier to dismiss them as “wild” or “animalistic” than understand and accept them. One woman said, “the dancers seemed frantic, and it had a gratuitous soft porn element.” Soft porn? Really? Sit down, Karen.

My favorites of the last decade or so are of course Prince at the top spot, Lady GaGa and Paul McCartney and Bruno Mars.

Did not care for Coldplay/Mars/Beyonce, Maroon 5, Justin Timberlake (how many times are they going to ask the same guy to perform?).

I would love to see the Foo Fighters get up there and rock the house. Pearl Jam would be great, but Superbowl is not something they would really be interested in doing.

Running out of people to do it, unless you start asking people to come back.

Bon Jovi would be a great choice - especially if they were able to arrange a mini-reunion with Richie Sambora, at least for that one performance. Lots of radio hits and fan-friendly music.

Oh my God! Can't people just voice or state their opinion without someone out there accusing them of racism or being a racist? ENOUGH ALREADY!!!! People are getting sick of this crap! You make a simple comment these days about anyone of another color, except white, and immediately you're accused of being a racist if someone out there doesn't like what you say, it's ridiculous and has gotten out of hand!!!! People can call white people white supremacists, racists, and say racists things against the white race, but somehow that's okay! Well it's NOT, because you're doing the exact same thing that you're accusing them of, which is being racist yourself, but I guess you don't see it that way, because it's attacking the white race! Racism is wrong, no matter what your race, and if you're attacking the white race, you're just as racist as when you're attacking any other race! People have a right to an opinion, and are allowed to voice it, whether some like it or don't like it, agree with it or don't agree with it! Just because a person doesn't like what you like, or voice an opinion that differs from yours, does NOT make that person a racist or white supremacist! We were not made to all think alike or agree with one another about everything, but unfortunately that's what we've become, and God help those who have an opinion other than what YOU think they should have or say what YOU think they should say!!!!! Who the hell made you GOD, ruler of what people can say or don't say, what they should feel or don't feel, and opinion they should have or don't have?

Typical racism apologies abound. Thank you for being the visual aid. You're probably one of those people who ask "Why isn't there a white history month?" or chant "White lives matter, too!"

Here's a tip: people of color can't be racist. Racism isn't "I hate black people." Racism is a system, built purposely against people of color. It's a conscience effort to criminalize people of color. Racism holds power over others. People of color in this country don't hold power over white people. It's a white world with rules written by white people, enforced by white people, and judged by white people. Ergo white SUPREMacy = white's being supreme is the assumption, so everyone else is a probable criminal. I know it stabs at your white fragility, and you'll fight it every step of the way, but you're erring on the wrong side of history.

And yes, people of color can be bigoted or prejudice against someone, but they can't practice racism. You really should learn what "racism" means and how it's been institutionalized (I know, big word, but google is your friend).

I don't need you to lecture me on what racism is, because just so you know, I am Black, so NO, I am not a visual aid, nor am I one of those people who ask "Why isn't there a white history month, or chants "White lives matter too!"......I'm just a person sick and tired of people using racism for every damn thing, and accusing others of being a racist just because their comment or view is different from theirs, or doesn't say what they want them to say! I am tired of others, like you, using racism to bully others just because they don't agree with what you want to agree with, and make a comment that's you don't like! People have a right to their opinion, and if that opinion is not your opinion, then too damn bad! You have the right to disagree with their opinion, but you don't have the right to accuse them of being a racist and using racism to suit your purpose! It pisses me off that you can't make a simple comment these days or simply voice an opinion, without being accused of being racist, if that comment or opinion does not express or line up with yours! I will not be bullied or silenced by the social media mob mentality types like yourself, who use racism to scare others into not making a simple comment about anyone of another color other than white, for fear of being called a racist! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!

Okay cool, you're black. You're not the visual aid. Apologies. It doesn't negate the larger part of anything I said about racism in general. You know the diff between racism and bigotry. But listen, calling out racism doesn't make me, as a white person, racist against white people. That's just absurd. It means I'm not being quiet when I see someone oppressed, lest I passively take the side of the oppressor with my silence.

To be clear, often times I don't think people are purposely racist, it's just what they know. Society is racist by default. It's subtle as fuck, but it's there. I don't know what it's like to be black, nor will you ever hear me say, "I know how you feel." I don't. So my responsibility is to help dismantle white supremacy because it's not black folk's job. They didn't create it, white people did.

And when I see white people talking shit about women of color for the same thing white women do, that's a problem I want to address. We all want to leave the world a little better than when we leave it.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

And when I see white people talking shit about women of color for the same thing white women do, that's a problem I want to address. We all want to leave the world a little better than when we leave it.

All I saw or read, was a poster making a comment about not liking the performance, and thought the dancing was frantic, and something about it having a soft porn element, or something to that affect, and that somehow ended up with the person being accused of making a racist comment, just because J-Lo and Shakira are Latin and not of the white race......I found that totally ridiculous and uncalled for! The poster made a simple comment, voicing their opinion of what they thought about the performance, and stating that they didn't like it, and all of a sudden he or she is accused of being racist! I mean, my God, people can't even make a simple comment anymore or just have simple disagreements or opinions that differ from one another, without being attacked or accused of being a racist these days! What happened to allowing others their opinions, and agreeing or disagreeing with that opinion if you choose to, without going off the deep end and just attacking someone, and accusing them of being a racist? Not everyone or every opinion that you don't like or agree with, makes you a racist! It's gotten out of hand, and have gotten just plain ridiculous to some degree! As a Black person, one that grew up in the south, during the 60's, 70's, etc, I know racists and racism pretty damn well, I've lived it for most of my life! But I don't like what I'm seeing now a days, with racism being used as an excuse for everything, and accusing everyone of being racist for every little thing! Sometimes it's just someone voicing or stating an opinion, and nothing more! People are throwing around the words and term of racist and racism so much so, that it is becoming meaningless, and people are just sick and tired of being accused of and being called a racist, especially if they are NOT a racist! I find that it's those that are constantly accusing others of being racist and calling them racists, are the ones that are really keeping the division and hatred going, and flaming the flames of division and racism, that they're accusing others of!

Its the best half time show because it just happened. Yes it was put together well and they are talented etc...but to compare it to a Prince show they are so totally different. This performance is more the spectacle and not really so much about music, theres all these other things going on which is fine because it is a SHOW. when prince did it, he was almost turning the Super Bowl into HIS CLUB, so I cant really compare. And yes its the best in peoples minds but theyll forget that soon. HOWEVER I will say people saying oh the NFL was honoring Women and Women Power because you had two women, and you had a female coach the first ever, and Demi doing the Anthem, you also had the NFL honoring OJ who even you think he didnt murder two people, he beat his wife 9 times and that was all DOCUMENTED, surprised they didnt toss A photo of Aaron Hernandez up there too. So I give the NFL no props at all for anything they are as always Full of Shit.

Prince's was the best, hands down.

But I did like Shakirlo .... a lot.

And of course you're gonna have the uptights, mostly the religious folk and the jealous women and the feminists, criticizing them for being too sensual. It ain't a race thang, Britney and other Beckys got called the same "soft porn" in the past.

To the critics I say ...
