Looking for that 70s "For You" sound Can you guys recommend albums by other artists that have a similar sound to Prince's "For You"? I particularly like the uptempo style tracks. I'm looking for that jazz/funk/r&b combination. [Edited 12/27/19 21:13pm]

Randomly thought of Dr. Hooks album "Sometimes You Win". "Sexy Eyes" and "What Do You Want"
Bee Gees "Spirits Having Flown" of course
Rufus & Chaka Khan - "Street Player". Prince would sing Chaka to get his vocals going on For You. Check out "Stay", "Stranger To Love" and "Destiny" especially
Fleetwood Mac - Rumors
Ramp - Come Into Knowledge
I feel these albums all have some similar recording styles and musical styles to Prince's "For You". Really speaks to the era. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Check out Ebonee Webb 2 albums. Ebonee Webb Too Hot Too Hot really has the Prince 70's sound. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Today I learned Clare Fischer worked on Soul albums as was part of Rufus, before working with Prince. Street Player’s “Finale” sounds like a predecessor to many Prince tracks. https://en.m.wikipedia.or...eet_Player . [Edited 1/1/20 10:41am]

When I first heard Ebonee Webb I said well this sounds like Prince meets the Barkays. Turns out, I think they were produced by the same producer as the Barkays.

This is such a good question because people act like his sound wasn't unique since his debut, but I haven't heard anything quite the same. Maybe the general choice of instruments but that's about it.

no...just keep listening to "For You"...theres no other lp i can think of in that era, with the range and diversity to go from the acapella opening of the title song, and follow it up with songs like "In Love", "Soft & Wet", "Crazy You", "Baby", "My Love Is Forever", "So Blue", and "Im Yours"...none of which songs, sound anything like the other..."For You" is unlike any other lp made by anyone else...shit, you cant even find another PRINCE album like it...truly a 1 of 1... BUT...if forced to compare it to anything else, however, the closest lp in style and sound, is Pepe Willie (with Prince & Andre) on the "94East: Minneapolis Genius" lp.

thanks Phunkdaddy, i just checked out Ebonee Webb after seeing your comment, and it sounds more like 1980-1981 P, than For You, P... "Something About You" is a blatant ripoff of "Head"...

LMAO ...Ebonee Webb even tried to copy Dr.Fink's synth solo from "head"...i wonder if P ever heard these guys music, and i wonder was he pissed at crews like Ebonee Webb and Ready For The World?...or was he honored and flattered?...or both?

Also Sun’s “Sunburn” from the same year sounds like it could’ve been done by him too
