I'm not sure if the OP was trolling or not. Be that as it may, he played the synth bass on "Venus' Flytrap & The Bug" like an upright bass and tt took me years to figure out that it was a keyboard, no keyboardist could ever emulate that and I doubt any upbright bassist would provide the same quirky charisma Stevie's playing did for the song. Stevie did hire great bassists (Nathan Watts anybody?) but being the adventerous musician he was, he experimented with that sound and it worked. I'd argue that Stevie wrote many funky bass lines on the moog (i.e. "Boogie On Reggae Woman") better than any keyboardist. I don't think anyone was able to do that, before or since.

I don't know what happened to Stevie Wonder after Secret Life Of Plants. Before that, his synth bass was better, I'd say, than Bernie Worrell, the other hero of synth bass. Afterwards? I'd agree with 2Freaky. He should've gotten bass players for all basslines. It's one of many changes he should have made. His lyrics turned sappier, his melodies plainer, the digital synths lost any warmth... he still hasn't really recovered, although there's the odd track.
